Lilo: pineapple gcc
Hello, a little about me: I grew up always having pets around, including birds, and birds have always been my most favourite pets. I have owned budgies, lovebirds, cockatiels and cockatoos. In particular I grew up with Kay, a Sulphur crested hen who was bonded with my mother but still friendly and gentle with the rest of us. She was beautiful, and a great talker. Sadly she was stolen from us after 20 years, which devastated us all.

I am currently married, with a blended family of 4 children aged 6 to 10. We have Lilo, a 2yo pineapple gcc hen, who we adopted straight after she was weaned and is an absolute cherished member of the family. She absolutely loves the kids, always wanting to be with them, playing with them or helping them with homework! I am so happy with how wonderful she is with them. She has particularly bonded with my 8yo boy who is a bird lover just like mum!

We are soon taking in a baby short-billed or little corella who will be coming home in a few weeks once he/she is weaned. I have asked the breeder to dna him/her to help with a name. I am very excited so I've started reading up and reading this forum even though I've had experience with toos and birds in general. In particular I'd like to work on training both birds with a clicker. I am also a trained vet nurse but my nursing was more with dogs and cats. Birds we would refer to a specialised bird vet nearby. During that time tho I did foster some birds and care for injured or baby wild birds.

Anyway, sorry for the long post but I'm happy to be here! Can't wait to get our new baby!

Welcome to another Aussie member! Corellas are such funny birds, I'm sure yours will be such a fun addition to your family. I don't use clicker training myself (I just reward and praise), but there are many members who do and who I'm sure can help you with that. You can also do a forum search on 'clicker training' to search out threads on the topic. Do post when your new bloke comes home and let us know all about him, won't you? :)

Welcome to forums! Please let us know how things turn out with your new addition! We'd love to see photos of Lilo if you want to share.

I've added a couple of pics to my albums but I'm still figuring out how to post them. I've read the guide but it only seems to be posting a link, not the picture straight to the post. Anyway I'll be sure to update when the baby comes home! I did foster a corella for a while and he was a lovely bird. Would have kept him if I had the time back then!
