For 2 days, Vortex has been making a non-stop honking rattling nose. She's just entering puberty, so I think it's hormone-related. The thing is, it's PERSISTENT. She's always doing it. The sound is a whiny, rattling honk honk honk, squeak, honk. AM I going to have to change her bedtime hours?

It sounds charming! Maybe it's a sound that he heard coming from outside, the TV, or radio that impressed him enough to mimic it.

This is what I absolutely love about a bird that mimics!!! The brain drain figuring out; what it is, when and where it came from, and the important why. The geese, nose blowing or whatever could've come from any place. Could it have been a background noise from TV? From outside? Hallway? Then the important how to react to it. Positive to encourage? Neutral with a liberal coating of hopes that it won't become a staple. Never negative encouragement because contrary parrots will use it as positive..look I got a reaction!

Well, I feel your pain. I'll always remember the time Yuri REALLY learned her name :ROFLMAO:

Ava honks often…it’s just one of her natural noises, not mimicking anything else. In fact, we lovingly call her Honky Chonk. 😆 I believe Pionus are similar to Amazons, so it’s possibly just a noise she’s starting to make while entering puberty.

I have two male English budgies that croak. No idea where that came from- they were doing it when I got them almost two years ago. It's not a budgie sound.
