How do you do yours ?
I have the solid bottom trays covered in newspaper.
Ontop of The barred bottom, I have a sheet under his food bowl to collect the food he throws out and another sheet under his roosting perch to collect his poop. I can change the paper daily under the bowl and roosting perch.
The paper underneath on the solid trays I do once or twice a week.
He is not a paper shredder bird.

For our Sun Conure's cage and two Cockatiels' cage, we don't use the barred bottoms/grates. I line the bottom with newspaper or paper towels. Kona and Pepper, the Cockatiels, might nibble newspaper a bit. We've also purchased large sheets of cheap construction/art paper.

Our Budgies have a big double-style cage. It has too much of a gap above the trays if the grates are removed, so I put whatever paper under the grates. I can usually wipe the grates clean with my water + vinegar mix that I keep in a spray bottle for cage cleaning.

One problem with paper towels is that some sheets, depending on the brand, don't lie flat. It's easy for Budgies to reach between the bars and start pulling the towels up. So I try to use paper in their cages.

I've also used cheap printer paper if we had nothing else at the moment.

i use a big roll of brown wrapping paper and a holder/tearoff stand to line the bottom of Saltys cage. It is SOOOOO easy now. Quick too. No more jigsaw puzzle fitting pieces of junk mail to completely cover the bottom, spilling waste all over when its time to gather and change them, no more Salty pulling bits of paper thru the bottom bars and shredding them. Never going back to using anything else! Kicking my self for not doing this years and years ago!

I have large cage. I use pre-cut cage liners. Rolled brown and cheap parchment paper under water and favorite morning poo area. Parchment is slightly water resistant so less leak through. I've thought about using wrapping paper.

Rb is a total shredder, so we need the grate. I use "puppy pads"... you know, those pads that can serve as indoor toileting or training for pups or small dogs. They're almost a perfect fit for the cage, absorbent, easy to roll, discard and replace. Plus they're a nice backdrop for poop inspection.
Example

You could also used incontinence bed pads, I suppose.

I use a large roll of brown kraft paper to line the trays on the bottom of Sophies cage. I change them twice a day.

Having aging pups, I thought about those but... a grey feather duster took delight in lifting and dropping grate. Each bounce it'd go higher. She got it up nearly 4 inches. So grate was removed long ago. Now she works on sliding tray. She gets tired/bored after it's out a few inches.

I have used parchment paper in a pinch, when I ran out of the lovely brown paper that comes as packing in boxes, but would never use it if Ollie was a shredder. He hates the bottom of his cage and only goes down there by accident. I knew he wouldn't go near it. The reason I would never use it with a bird who rips up bottom papers is that it is full of toxic chemicals. PFAs. There are more expensive brands that are non toxic but the cheap ones, including Costco, have been tested and show positive toxicity results.

I use newspaper on top of the bottom grate. Ona doesn’t shred in her daytime cage. She does shred in her smaller sleep cage, but she doesn’t poop in there either really so I just leave it be.

I use precut sheets of packing paper from Amazon. 240 sheets 31x22 for $25. They work great with my cages. I use 10 to 15 sheets a week for 5 cages. Free shipping!

I use paper towels or printer paper in mine! If we’re in a pinch, I use old cardboard. I personally prefer paper towels, as it’s the least messy cleanup!
