I noticed Tango chewing on the towel I drape over the shower for him to stand on. Thankfully he dropped the piece of fabric in the water bowl after. I won’t be placing him on that towel anymore but I’m scared maybe he ate some material while I wasn’t looking. How fast can it happen? He seems fine but what should I look out for?

I'd look for holes chewed in the fabric. Parrots do chew stuff without eating any, so even that might not mean he ingested some fibers. I believe it take a fairly good amount of ingested fibers to actually impact an internal organ, not just a strand or 2.

If their crop is full, contain dry food , clumps or impacted, the Parrot will look like it is in a series of gagging actions. Their goal is to cause the mass to turn and be pulled up into the month.

If they are unable to move the mass, it is a fast, all-out-run to your Avian Medical Professional.

If parts of the towel are missing and not just torn, I'd still get your bird for a check-up/ x-ray in the near-ish future; ASAP if the pieces missing are noticeable and/or see any behavior changes. A few fibers--super small ones- will not cause any immediate damage in all likelihood, but they can over time if others contribute.

They can have things accumulate over time, and if yours did eat the towel, you want to know because she could also be eating other things. They do often chew things and spit them out, but certain things are harder to spit out than others.
