yellow-sided Green Cheek Conure, Jonah.
for your parrot to want to play and be around you? I'm wondering because my birdie pretty much stays in his cage all day and either sleeps or eats, even though I have his cage door open. I've only had him for a few days so I don't expect much, but I'm just curious.

I took him to the vet yesterday and she said he looked great. He's a young GCC. He didn't bite at all. Right now, he'll let me pet him anytime and he steps up onto me when I bribe him with food. He doesn't play with his toys in the cage either.

Thanks in advance!

to the world of being owned by a FID (Feathered Kid)

He will need a few weeks to adjust. Keep in mind his entire world has changed. Sounds like you are off to a good start though!

Jonah needs time to adjust, everything is still so new to him.
You mentioned that he is still young, little ones tend to sleep quite a bit during the day.
When he is sitting with you, place a toy on your lap, begin to play with it, kiss it anything, let him see how much fun you having.
When he is ready and willing he will come out, on his own terms, be patient, it works wonders.
Take care

My Green-cheek went from being completely handshy to a velcro bird who loves getting groomed by hand in a month. OTOH my Sun was stepping up in only a week but still won't let fingers near her otherwise (we've had her a month now too). Each bird is different: if yours is stepping up and accepting food and touches, you're on your way. Let it get acclimated to its new surroundings and people in its life, and enjoy each little step as it comes. :)
