Human to fid transmission

I know I've read it somewhere on this forum about human illnesses being transmitted to birds, but can't find where I saw it. I know that Wharfrat's situation clearly comes to mind.

We have the norovirus (causing all the cruise ship GI maladies) and common cold germs storming through our household. No matter how many times I tell my 15 year old not to kiss the fids while he has a cold, he continues to do so. Are cold germs of concern to birds?

Generally speaking,,NO. But why take the chance. My kids and fids , don't listen to me either, LOL.

Fortunately, most illnesses are NOT zoonotic. (zoonosis - disease which can be spread between species). I just briefly read a study in which norovirus antibodies were seen in other animal species who weren't the natural host specie, but they did not see development of the actual disease.

Still... I personally understand how you feel about it. I'd probably be on the unnecessarily paranoid side :52: Even if scientific studies showed otherwise, I'd think in the back of my mind 'what if a mutation of the virus happens in my house and we would be the first reported case?!' LOL, no really - DONT WORRY

Also, to ease your mind, call your vet and hear him confirm this. Take care, hope this nasty bug is out of your house soon and you are all feeling better asap.

I would however be very cautious still due to what happened to Scott. At the same time one of them might of been a carrier to begin with but never showed symptoms as virus can do that and just pop out of no where making the host sick then transfer to other birds.
