Hunter Trouble

There are different types of hunting... there is "just for fun", where you go off and shoot whatever, there is "population control" like a previous poster said, things like myxomatosis (see the PS ) etc are nasty inflictions and it's almost kinder to shoot them, quick and clean. where i'm from, farmers still allow fox hunting to keep their sheep safe eyc, so there are two sides to the medal here... Another form is "leisurely" where it's more about being outdoors and enjoying the landscape and fresh air, and no real animals are shot, but maybe a tree gets pierced a bit or some other objects. if the topic comes up with this man, try keep an open mind and find out what it is attracts him in hunting. he may be the last option and just enjoys the fresh air, you may even go along with him and enjoy it together and find it's not as bad. Anyway all the best of luck. different strokes for different people you know? :) i can understand why some people like hunting, but personally i couldnt stomach it either.

Ps: My ex was big into hunting as well, i went along once or twice until an animal actually got shot, a rabbit with a litter all infected with myxomatosis. i never went along again, it was one of the most painfull things to watch and in my opinion it was the kindest thing to do to shoot them all...
Luckily i am now with someone that shares the same values and morals as me, so i doubt i'll be confronted with a scene like that again :)

I think its cruel for people to eat farmed meat ;) Yet I don't go around telling people they are wrong for doing so :P

I would ask him what type of hunting, ask the process, ask him how skilled he is etc :) There may be an endearing story behind it that you never considered. Perhaps he hunts a certain species for population control. Perhaps he, like a lot of others, can not stomach the commercial food trade and has honed his skill as a hunter and ensures a quick death in an animal who enjoyed living its life free :)

I only eat hunted meat. I can't be 100% vegetarian though I do eat very little meat when I do eat meat it is "game meat". Meat from kangaroo and deer under population control. I also eat local chicken and eggs.

A part of my secondary and tertiary education involved us visiting slaughter houses and farms. After seeing how animals were raised and slaughtered... I would not eat commercial meats again. I my self do not hunt, though if I ever had the time I would love to learn. My intention will be to eventually keep my own chickens which I will prepare myself, I just cant do it for now.

For health reasons I have to eat meat unfortunately, but I want to know that animal lived a happy life before becoming a meal.

I am against big game fishing, I think its cruel to exhaust a giant fish to near death and then throw it back into the ocean where it is vulnerable to attack... and make no mistake, many dont even make it to the boat in one piece, let alone live on once released after what could be hours of fighting. Though I love regular old hobby fishing.
