I did a Thing.....

Chicken Coop arrived today! It's 7-8 feet long, has wide bar spacing, and offers more playroom than their cages. Now if only they wouldn't refuse to enter it **Cough Yvons Cough**.

I won't have to wash it.. It's powder-coated. YIPPIE! Bar spacing is bigger than I feel comfortable with, but as I'm supervising the cage and the only real problem will be the older birds if they decide to come out of their cage, I don't think I should have to worry.

And if you missed my post on my flock thread, here's the coop:

And Vortex acting as the Model:

I got more shots today! The first picture shows us our lovely model, Vortex, being unimpressed with being stuck in the contraption again...

The next shows the depth of the cage. I swear it's like 2 and a half of her cages put together. Not great for flying high, but good for flying straight :)

Very nice! That’s some great space for the bigger birds!

I like it. I hope she can't get her head stuck between the bars.
I hope not. She and Yvons are as big the birds as I trust the coop with.

I just wish Yvons would allow me to take him to it!

A Tour of the cage:

That looks nice. I wouldn't rush Yvonn. He's only been with you a short time. He may equate new cage new and strange home. Let him observe the others.

Thanks :) . I keep forgetting that step ups are new to him in my care. He has an absolute hatred of sticks, which Vortex also has. I dunno how to catch her (or him) when its time to go to the cage.... and time to come back to their home cage. :o

How did you get Vortex into the new cage?
I managed to get her on a stick/perch with lots of praise. Took some convincing tho. And I made sure to give her some almonds :D.

I need to move my budgies around (put them in the cage for bedtime). I use stick perches a lot with those budgies that don't like hands and I have a few budgies that won't get on a stick perch but jump right on my hand. Then there are the budgies that won't get on either one. They can be a problem for sure. I have to either towel or net them or wait for them to go in on their own. I hate grabbing them like that and they don't like it either. When Joey escapes the bedroom where she lives alone (for good reasons) to hang with the cool kids in the living room I need to catch her with a fish net to get her back in the bedroom. And she very strenuously objects. However, Joey is a love sponge and never holds it against me. She doesn't object out of fear- she just doesn't want to go back! Joey loves to give kisses and loves it when I kiss her on the beak. I've had very sweet budgies before but Joey is the only one that let's me kiss her. She has never bitten me or anyone else. When she doesn't like something she opens her beak and "squawks" but that's it.

Looks like Nameliss has competition in the spoiled department. She loves cuddles and scritches. She'll rest her beak on my face. Occasionally blowing me a kiss. With her beak strength and sharpness, I am glad she doesn't insist on actual kisses. Paranoia or cautious? Take your pick. I'm leaning towards cautiously paranoid about face bites or nips.

A budgie beak can't cause too much damage but a CAG beak demands caution. Even a little nip could require stitches!
