Parrots
Black headed caique- Diego
Turquoise GCC- Rio
I've decided to give green cheek conures another shot. So I saw these ads somewhere for a high red yellow sided green cheek and I saw one for a regular green cheek. Normally colors don't matter that much to me but the high red one REALLY caught my eye. "His" owner described him to be very playful, very friendly, not nippy, and loves to be with you. The other ad for the regular green cheek claims that he LOVES to cuddle, and likes to just calmly and quietly sit with you or on your shoulder. I REALLY want a bird that can cuddle or at least that I can give head stratches to but Diego (BHC) is very playful and I don't know if getting a cuddly bird would be suitable. I don't think Diego would try and play with the bird but he always wants to play, whether it's by himself or with me. He's always on the move. If I'm cuddling with a bird, and Diego wants to play with me, I'm not sure how'd that work out.Rio pretty much likes all birds and doesn't mind them, and apparently the other green cheeks are good with other birds too. I know there is a possibility they won't like eachother though. I know their general personalities but I'm going to contact the owners and get to know more about them. I just need help picking a suitable bird for not only me but for Diego and Rio as well. I wish I could adopt both!

Edit: I also found one more conure in the area; a black capped conure. Apparently she's very sweet, doesn't bite anymore, loves to take baths, loves to be around gentle kids and does well with other birds and gets along with everyone in the household.

what do you mean by this.

I too would love to get a second bird and found a Dusky but my husband shot me down. Some times he can be a real dream crusher. Most of the time he is the best.

Could be good getting a second. It could be good for years than change. Birds are weird and because I know this I am ok with my husband not wanting another bird. Splitting my time between 2 birds would be too hard at this point in my life. I guess one is enough for now.

Good luck I look forward to seeing what happens.

I always ask folks who have bird(s) already what is missing from your current relationships that you hope to fill with additional bird(s). Think about it hard . splitting your time more, more food, more vet bills, more cages, more toys, more clean up time and supplies 2 or 3 X more. If you think you can handle it , go for it. Oh and finding a home now for 2 or 3 x more birds when you pass on from this mortal coil. Sorry for being a bummer, maybe, but I am on the side of the parrots, since they cant talk ( much).

Um, let's see, I am going to pick my wife from one of my best friend's relationships! Judy/Bob, Judy is sexy, playful, always positive. Carol/Bill, Carol keeps a clean house, awesome with making payments... My JoJo? Quiet, loves to cuddle, not really playful, but there for the long haul! Duh! That is me!
My point, your relationship with your companion is the chemistry between you both!
Example, my 'first' failed marriage, I had my two children, 1 and 3, for two months, on my own. Xwife walks into the room, children completely different! Laughing, giggling clowns! Pushed me into reality real fast! Grass is not greener on the other side of the mountain! It just looks greener!
Sorry, hopes this makes sense, I am in a mood!

Wow, all the responses here are kind of downer! I say meet 'em all and pick the one you make the best connection with! :D

I agree, brought way too much personal baggage into my reply!

But I enjoyed the analogies ;)

And Puck...whilst I agree, Salty I must thank you for that point of view!It is your sentiments that stopped me in my tracks one day! The sudden motivation drained out of me when I read that train of thought one day, and realised how good I really have it with Henry and how much he could lose out if i got my Grey....

Let them pick you. I have 2 Yellow Sided GCC's. When I first got Maxx 5.5 years ago, I had 7 GCC's to pic from. 3 Normal, and 4 YSGCC. I was able to handle and decide between all 7. I never got the chance. Maxx came to me, jumped on my shoulder and never got off. He stepped up from the start, and it was love at first sight.

I was at a Bird Fair a few months back and met my newest YSGCC Emma. 2.5 month old beautiful bird. Again she came to me, would not let me go, and I brought her home an hour later. Got her DNA tested and was happy to find out she was a she.

Her and Maxx met, and it was best buds from the very beginning. Although Emma had her own cage, she has spent every night with Maxx in his HUGE cage.
They are best friends, age difference aside. They are constantly preening each other, and seem happy to share each other's life.

Let them pick you, you will know when you have a bird that wants to be with you.
Happened twice for me, and I am so glad it did.

The best thing to do is not feel rushed. If you "click" with a bird, be the bird GCC or other conure or whatever, that's what's important. I had never "clicked" with a GCC until I held one - he loved me from day 1 and I wasn't even in the market of buying! He came home with me that day.

I just reread your original post, this time all the way through. First time through, I only made it this far:

I apologize! My original reply is too old for me to edit! It was late night, adult beverage(s), misdirected anger, and I just found out my roof is leaking!
Your questions and concerns are all well thought out, and taking into consideration what salty said, if you're really wanting another bird you have to work with him and let it click!

I don't think there has to be something missing in your relationship with your current bird or birds, just that you have more love to give to a lucky new baby:)
I can't wait to hear who you pick (or who picks you!)

Ok...now here is MY take on this! As we all know, I have two fids..BB being the newest member of the fam damily  Amy has always loved people,AND other birds..

My guys play together, and they go to other people readily (socialize!) and easily entertained and it only takes me 15 munutes to feed 'em.

Cleaning houses, changing papers,is a half hour thing for me..no biggie..and I get to play with my kids :D
MORE than 2 fids?? ummmm...errrr..I dunno about that lol.

I am pretty opinionless on this, but I enjoyed reading the thread and want to wish you the very best!
