I think I have tooooooo many toy parts....

So, I just placed an order from the acclaimed MSBS (My safe bird store). I bought 6 lg seagrass mats, 2 sneakers, & 2 huge bagels.
Now my toy making skills stink! My Mango is so lucky I have a son who helps, well occasionally. I always have to ask my 9yr old son for help
Why would someone do this when they can't make any toys worth a **** you may ask?!
I have a big box of toy parts, so what i do is just dump the box on the table and have Mango pick the parts out he likes. Trouble is........he likes them ALL!:30:
Today I think he went into toy overload! Throwing toys here and there, taking off with a few dropping them like little bombs!
I really think he dropped one by accident, then he saw how he spooked Einstein, our little 6 lb pomeranian. And thought, hey look at him run!
Guess who's cleaning the mess up.....nope not me! I told my son Mango made a mess again, I'll get you some ice cream if yoy clean this up!:21:
So basically this toy thing. How come when I make a toy, it ends up looking like a string with couple beads, wood pieces and a bell in the end? No matter how long, or how planned out the procedure is. Then i come here and see ALL these eccentric, intriguing toys everyone else is making. I figured, that looks easy.......then i end up with a tp roll with a card on the end. After an hour of cutting, tying, bending and dyeing! @$!#/&*() ₩¥£€_%=××--
I think I'm just "toy creator challenged":30:
Now I have these new awesome looking toy parts to try and attempt a toy with.

I love making toys for my birds ^^ i suck at it too but they just destroy them anyway so who cares If its fun for them i'm happy. I'm currently drilling holes in wooden blocks that i painted with unsweetened Kool Aid. Maya loves this cause they taste good too (its safe for them)

HAHAHA...mine always look like a toddler made them! The birds always like them though so I guess that's all that counts.

One thing that might help is don't try so hard. If you spend hours and hours and hours trying to make a toy your going to over think it and therefore make a less than great (in your mind anyways the bird may still love it) toy. Whenever I am making anything even a doll blanket for my niece I simply have quite a few distractions going on for example I will either have music or a t.v. on as well as talking to somebody and then just have my hands being busy and whatever comes out of it is what it is. Now if I put all my focus on the task I can never do anything to my own satisfaction.

I like to "lay out" the pieces before I assemble them And since Kiwi isn't too destructive, I "recycle" any parts from store bought toys that are still in good condition. I find those parts which you cannot buy individually are generally the ones you can make the best toys from. I also find baby toys and party favors (use common sense regarding safety) along with a drill are your best friends for making awesome toys. But really, most birds just rip them up and do not care how "cool" they look anyways. Beads on a string with a bell at the end=a good time for a parrot

Wow, Mango's dad has SIX LARGE mats! That could take a WHILE... Better get going That'll keep an Eclectus boy happy for a long time!

Pretty soon you'll be a master toy maker and you'll find your collection of toy parts will need bigger containers. A lot of my bird's favorite toys are the ones I make for them. I think parrots rate a toy more on destruction factor than appearance.
