Parrots
Pineapple conure- Tiago
Two budgies- Edith & Azalea
Im devastated to say that i might have to rehome my babies. I got them when i was still in high school, but now i work full time and i just cant give them the attention and time that they need to thrive.

My budgies are indifferent towards me and dont really care for me, so the bond i have with them isnt strong but i still love them deeply. My conure on the other hand, we are incredibly attached to each other. I got her when she was just a few months old and she will be 2 in march. She is an incredibly loving girl and it breaks my heart that im not able to give her what she needs.

As i said before, i just cant keep up with them anymore. I struggle with bipolar 1 and BPD which send me into deep depression episodes where i cant get myself to do anything, including caring for the birds. That on top of working full time makes it impossible to make time for them and it breaks my heart. They deserve so much better than what i give them.

This has been something ive been debating on for months now and im coming to the realization that the best thing for them is to give them the home and life that i cannot provide, even if that means im not in it anymore.

This has been the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make and the most devastated ive been since my last conure passed but its what i know is best for them.

Im absolutely terrified of sending them to a home where they wont be taken care of which is why ive delayed this all because i cant get myself to post on facebook or god forbid bringing them to a shelter.

I guess my point of this post is to get advice on the best way to go about this. If i were to rehome them id like to send their cages and the toys and food i still have with me. Would it be selfish of me to ask for some money to compensate for the cages and food? They were quite expensive. I wouldn’t be asking for too much. How can i be sure the home i send them to is a reputable one? I need to be 1000000% sure and absolutely positive that the home they go to is experienced in birds and that they wont have to be rehomed again.

Where do you live (state or province)? Maybe a member who lives somewhere close by would want to adopt them. A rehoming fee is not unusual and prevents people from taking them to feed to their snakes so its a good idea. Just don't expect to get enough to cover the cost of their cages completely.

Please don't make a rash decision to rehome them. You may miss them a lot more than you think and may worry about them and feel so guilty that your mental health issues may get worse. The two budgies don't need much attention from you- they have each other! The conure does need attention. I wish you could find a way to find time for her. She looks like such a sweet bird.
