I have been getting my bird food through Chew for more than a year and got a message from them.

They said they would no longer carry ZuPreem nut blend
I went to ZuPreem and asked "what's going on" to quote Bella.

This is a copy of the email response I got from them.

anyone else out there that depends on the following pellets age going to need to look for alternatives.

Hello Wes,

Thank you for reaching out to ZuPreem. It is our ongoing mission to provide our customers with premium, quality products they can rely on. Continuing to bring new products into the marketplace sometimes requires us to say goodbye to some old favorites, too. While it was not an easy decision, discontinuing NutBlend, PastaBlend, and VeggieBlend allows us to focus on the development of new and innovative products for the animals we serve. I am sorry for any inconvenience this causes you and your pets, and I’d like to invite you to try FruitBlend or Naturals, which are other nutritionally appropriate complete pellets offered by ZuPreem.

I would be happy to log your disappointment with this decision in our system so that our Innovation team can take it into consideration as we develop new product ideas. We are continually gathering, filtering, and logging feedback such as yours to ensure we are keeping up with demands and meeting the needs of our consumers and their favorite feathered friends.

I have included a coupon to use towards the FruitBlend or Naturals, if you would like to try it out. (Please note, that our coupons are intended to be printed off at home and used at in-store retailers. They are one time use only.)

As a company that continuously strives to provide the highest products and service to our customers, thank you again for taking the time to contact us with your important feedback. I truly appreciate you being a ZuPreem customer. Please feel free to reach out at any time if you have any further questions or concerns.

Regards,

I’ll bet there will be lots of parrots and parronts who will be most disappointed with this news, my favourite things get discontinued all the time :( Thank you for the heads up, Wes, I hope you are able to find a suitable alternative 🙏

Geez! Dont you just love the spin companies put on the "too bad, so sad, tough luck" language in messages like this? I hope Bella will eat something else! I know how fussy parrots can be. Don't they realize that there are parrots out there that may starve without the specific food they've been eating for years? Did they even considered that when making this don't let them fool you business decision?

I dont know why but this kinda reminds me of the Seinfeld episode about when they discontinued the "Sponge" Elaine used and she had to stockpile them and save them only for someone who was "Spongeworthy"! My mind must be in the gutter.

Yes, please discontinue products that already make birds and their owners happy, so you can focus on developing new ones.

I almost never hear/read mentions of Pasta Blend, but I thought NutBlend was quite popular!

It is popular. And it's not that the items like Nut Blend being discontinued are that great but there are birds that eat them exclusively. And it took a long time to get some of them to accept them at all.
I'm not a big fan of any Zupreem products or any pellets for that matter because I don't really like manufactured food. I'm more of a chop fan, but I feel bad for the parrots that eat them.

My Cockatiels eat it.
They eat the large size pellets and hold them in their feet munching away.
I have never had any luck with vegetables with them.

I’m sure Bella eats them too but not sure about the Twins.

I tried Tops before and it was a big fail.
So was Harrison’s.

Have you tried Roudybush? Button was weaned onto the Zupreem “fruity pebbles,” as I call them, by his breeder. When I was converting him to TOPs, I tried mixing some Roudybush pellets in, and he really liked those. You can order small pouches to try from their website.

I also suggest Roudybush. All of our birds eat the Daily Maintenance Crumbles. Even Sprite, our Sun Conure, eats the Crumble size. She likes for me to pick up pieces between my fingertips and hand-feed them to her. If I do that several times, she usually starts eating from her food dish. I should buy her the next size up, but I hesitate to change what she already eats.

Some smug bird owners act like Tops is the only acceptable main food (other than vegetables, chop, treats), and you're a terrible owner if you dare to feed any other pellet or any seed mix. I respect the Tops company for wanting to make a high-quality food, but this one brand is not an absolute requirement for keeping a bird happy and healthy...as some people act.

I guess if I had birds that ate one of those discontinued foods I would try to find as much of it as I could at local retailers, stockpile it in the freezer, and hope it lasts as long as the birds live. Maybe we should all keep our eyes out for Nut Blend so Wes' cockatiels and other PF members' birds can continue to enjoy their favorite pellets at least until they can be converted to something else that will also be discontinued. No price-gouging! Good thing they can't discontinue millet.

This reminds me of what my sister went through when they (finally) discontinued Tab soda several years ago. She drank Tab since she was a teenager, up to six cans a day, and no other diet cola tasted like Tab (thank God). Frankly, I don't know how she could drink the vibe tasting stuff but she loved it. The year it was discontinued my husband and I found about fifiteen 12 packs at a store here in Maine and brought it all to NJ as a Christmas present. You should have seen her face when she saw all those pink 12 packs under the tree on Christmas morning! I suggested she try to make it last but like any true 'aholic she couldn't stop at one or two and before long she enjoyed her last pink can of Tab soda.

There are definitely pellet snobs out there but any bird that eats any major brand of parrot pellets is eating a complete diet. A boring one, perhaps, but not deficient. People can't help it if their birds won't eat Tops or Harrisons or Roudybush. They also can't help it if they can't afford to feed Harrisons to multiple wasteful, messy birds. My budgies waste way too much food and I try not to let it bother me but it would REALLY bug me if they tossed Harrisons pellets all over the cage floor like they do their seed mix.
Instead of pellets, I mix my own seed mix (usually white millet, red millet, canary grass seed, and oats groats), but they always get chop, too, often topped with a bit of plain scrambled eggs plus a big outer leaf of romaine lettuce or other fresh green items. Lately I've been sprouting their seed mix and adding the sprouts to the chop dishes. It certainly would be easier to just feed them pellets but it wouldn't be as much fun since we all seem to enjoy the morning feeding ritual and they're all thriving. Lots of healthy looking poops everywhere, that's for sure!

I discovered this forum and food chop recipes she eats. She has a chop stop site. There's days she wants a second helping. I've noticed that her pellet amount has decreased a bit. At first I had concerns. But her weight, activities and health are unchanged. I have worried about her pellets being disconnected. Or worse being bought out and quality decrease.
