Important Pellet question is.....

Hi everyone sorry if someone asked this question for a different bird but. i also asked in a another persons thread but i think ill ask in my own. Ok here is my question, is it okay if i leave a small amount of harrisons pellets out for a bhc while i am at school. also should i just put pellets or fruit and veggies or both in its cage at night? also last question how much fruit and veggies and how much pellets a day and when?hope i didnt make it to confusing lol thanks in advance

Sounds like a simple question. It isnt.

You must leave food for the bird AT ALL TIMES
The bird will make a soup with the food in his water bowl
The bird MUST have clean water AT ALL TIMES. This is because the bird soup contains harmful bacteria.

Most people solve this issue by leaving pellets in the cage all day, but supplementing with fresh foods morning and evening, removing all old food as often as possible

remember the water - he will bathe ( and sometimes poop) in it as well - clean the water dish as often as possible

Yes I agree
At night your bird should be sleeping.
let him wake with the dawn and sleep at sunset, as much as possible. This is not for some romantic reason. The light will regulate his hormones and give you a happier healthier bird

HE IS NOT HUMAN. He needs 12 hours sleep EVERY NIGHT

Its fine. but there will be no just in case. Caiques dont sleepwalk.

There are many acceptable pellets. Im in Africa so we have different brands here.

The only pellet which is useful is the one he will eat. Find out what his breeder is feeding him

I give mostly harrison's, occasionally some goldn'obles as treats, and my BHC seem to like the coarse one to hold and nibble on and also the fine ones to dip in the water and eat.

Typically 1-2 cup full a day, depanding on your caique's appetite, you can adjust accordingly but try to give fresh pellets daily so there's no waste and decreases risk of spoilage

I give two servings of fresh fruits and veggies mixed with the harrison's mash in AM and PM and leave it in for a couple of hours and discard, any fresh food should not be left overnight.

I change the water bowls (two) 1-3x/day depanding on how messy they get.

ok i am planning on giving a caique this kind of diet thanks for all the ideas everyone. i will give them some fresh food in the morning along with a cup of pellets they like.then when i get home i will take the old food out throw it away and give him the same thing. then i will wait until i go to bed and take out the old food and throw it away then put a small amount of pellets for him overnight.
is this a good diet?i feellike i am throwing a lot of food away. help!!
How much is a "serving" and can i give the bird too much vitamins sorry if this was asked before
