Gus the Jenday Conure (7yo) Pooka the Umbrella Cockatoo (17yo) Sky, Arwen, Antigone the Budgies (all born in August 17') - and Captain our Yellow Naped Amazon (10 yo) RIP Oatey 8/15/17 Cloud 4/28/18
So I have an Umbrella Cockatoo who does it, but I recently added a yellow nape amazon to my flock and she randomly will have long conversations of not-quite-words ... is this pretty normal for Amazons?

I work with a guy like that ;)

My Hawk Head go through periods where she appears to be carrying on a conversation with herself.....I get a kick out of it. I don't know if it's a prelude to her learning a new word (we've had her 2 years and no new words yet) or if it's just her being content and making noise.

Yeah she's about 10 (she's a rescue with no hatch date information and the vet doesn't know for sure) and she says certain words really well, but it's like she wants to be a part of the conversation because the inflection is all there... i absolutely love it (especially when she throws a laugh in) but wasn't sure if it was normal or not :)

Yep..totally normal. Even though Amy can speak very clearly,he gets a case of the mumbles from time to time.
Smokey,a TAG,was very good at mumbling! Like you mentioned, the inflections were there, and she'd just get into it at times, throwing her head back and forth and up and down..it was hilarious to watch and listen.

good good.. i love it ^_^

Cardi mumbles to a lot of songs. She wants to sing along but can’t get the words out lol

Incoherent mumbling and /or jabbering is a sign that you have yet to learn Amazon Speak! :D As everyone has stated, it is very common!

Amazons are always practicing and anytime the family is gabbing, they love to join in!

Nothing like assuring that you are a Crazy Parrot Person: When talking with someone on the phone and your Amazon clearly wanting to be part of the conversation, press the 'speaker button' and let them join it! Really fun when you get one of 'those calls,' let them speak to your Amazon! It can be a real joy!

I spend a lot of time on conference calls from home and Nike cant stand that I'm not talking to her, she squaks rather than mumbles and causes me to move away from her so I can talk.

Julio gets bored with business calls (thank goodness) and ends-up planting his Beak behind my ear and sleeps. He loves talking to the grand kids and the grand kids are the same - do you want to talk to grandma - no, I want to talk to Whooo leeee ooh! :D

This is a short video of my newest amazon Luna doing her version of amazon speak.

Ohhh... the perfect answer for telemarketers! :D

George the YCA used to mutter to himself quite often. Scooter the CAG does it too sometimes.
