I've not yet told my 'bird story' but I had to share this aspect.
I had a parakeet named Sammy that I got in 1989 and had him for 11 years. He was my very best friend. I had a horrible childhood and he was one of the few bright spots. School was a nightmare for me and too often I came home crying and would go into my room and Sammy would be there. He'd tilt his head down as if to say "its okay daddy, Sammys here". That was such a comfort. I'd laugh and dry my tears. I can still picture that image in my head even after all these years.
Well, the other night, after Skittles had gone to bed, I was cutting onions for a dish I was making and I cut my thumb. The following day, I was at the PC standing desk and it started to bleed again. Skittles was on my shoulder (as he often is when I'm at my PC). He climbed down my shoulder and arm and tilted his head JUST LIKE SAMMY USED TO DO! But, in true Skittles fashion, he had to go dramatic and he proceeded to make his "kissy noises". I swear, if birds could talk, he was saying "Skitty kiss boo-boo and make daddy all better?". It was the WAY he looked at me when he made those noises. It totally made my day.
