Very awesome, you have your own mini hurricane in your house. SO much going on.

This may be a parrot forum, but you keep those pics of Levi Logan coming!

Maddie is indeed looking beautiful! She has obviously flourished under your care.

Were your mother and husband able to figure out how she managed to escape?

Yes. They couldn't figure out how but upon coming home today (FINALLY!!) it was immediately clear to me what had happened.

Btw I stood in my aviary and cried with birds on me. It's been an emotional day as I left my baby at the hospital and was reunited with other family members. It's going to be an interesting few weeks.

funny how the true parront always spots thing instantly.

Nothing wrong with some tears of joy! you haven't seen your babies for a while! Bet they loved seeing momma too, no more escapee attempts I hope!

Wow! Sounds either like heaven or complete madness depending on your outlook. (heaven for me!) Just gotta keep an eye on those pesky predators

I'm glad you figured out your little Houdini's escape route, Dani. Scary. Looking forward to seeing the changes you have in store for the aviary.

How long will Sir Levi have to remain in the hospital? I'm hoping the little dude gets to come home soon.

Well today he was able to stop having foot stabs because he got his blood sugar managed :)

Buuuuut not so much the bilirubin. So today and maybe tomorrow he gets light therapy. Of course this means he has to be unswaddled and so he cries when you put him back after feedings, and since he needs the therapy he has to only be held at meals...it's rough on a mamma.

The madness is... mad lol but thankfully everyone involved has lived with birds and knows how not to let the cats eat them! I will still be spending most of my time at the hospital.

If the light therapy goes according to plan, and if his heart rate stays up, we may get to bring him home next week! In the mean time he gets these super cool glasses...

Ah little Levi looks so sweet with his arm and hand tucked under his cheek.

I can see why the no cuddling/holding is hard.

Super cool glasses indeed! What a sweet pic of your little man. Next week, eh? Sounds like a plan. Sending hugs and prayers his way.

Our friends did get evacuated.

Current population at our house:

HUMANS: 5 adult, 2 juvenile. One juvenile recovering from major abdominal surgery

CANINES: 4 adults

FELINES: 4 adults 3 juveniles

AVIANS: 23 IRNs, 5 cockatiels, 5 GCCs, 5 budgies, 4 society finches, 2 lovebirds. 44 total birds

TOTAL POPULATION: 62 taking shelter here from Hurricane Irma.

It's basically a party!

Oh yeah and they are taking about sending my premature infant son home that day...o.O

Talk about extremes!....great news for you, sucky for your friends, lucky they have you guys close, but not too close...Hope the next few days/weeks run as smoothly as possible :)

Thank you!

I won't lie, I would love being home just my family right now, but my guests are the easy kind who take care of themselves and understand why I'm not really playing hostess. They also are helping out A LOT and it's really great to see them.

And here is a pic of Levi in the cradle his great-grandpa Noble made for me when I was very little. I never really played with dolls but a lot of stuffed animals have slept in it over the years! And starting when I was 5 every baby that came home from the hospital posed in it (one brother and two sisters) and now Levi!

I keep swearing to take pics of the birds but I keep forgetting my phone when I am with them. I'll try to get hurricane party pics of them :)

Congratulations on Levi's homecoming!!! That's great news!

Uhmmm... you seem to have forgotten to post that pic of him, however. Lol! Given that you're a brand spanking new mom, though, I'm impressed you even remembered to press send! ;)

Oops!

A new model shows Irma hitting us pretty directly. We will see. All the birds are snug as bugs in rugs inside; my amazing husband helped me catch them all out of the aviary. Obviously I'm annoyed to have to do so so soon when they finally have the freedom I've been promising them for years, but I'm clearly not going to leave them outside.

oh my lord! Yes try and get a picture of the animal menagerie! Must be like ol' Noah's ark in there!

Welcome home Dani and Levi. Your flock is now complete!!

Just to let you know, while things did get ugly in some parts of our area (apparently a local gas station lost its roof? And lots of power outages) our yard stayed cool. Barely any wind. A lot of water ran THROUGH our yard but not much stayed.

The IRNs came inside in crates, and as I was releasing them my sweet 90 year old neighbor came out and said she had been watching before the storm; she was so worried we weren't going to take the poor birds inside! I thought it was sweet and I'm happy that she likes them. I think we will be friends once I get the first week or two of mom life under my belt.

Oh but the bugs are seeking high ground! Ants everywhere! One colony is set up in the aviary, and one is invading my house. Our friends apparently left today with a whole passenger load of ants and spiders lol.

I didn't have a chance really in the chaos to take pics OF the chaos, but here is Whiskey, once again an only cat, keeping me company as I eat in the middle of the night after feeding the baby.

Oh and we went to the human vet... oh I mean the pediatrician... today and everything is right on track for this preemie so I'll probably get to post more bird stuff again :) when the cages get here, Hammie and Nohea will move back inside. The other tame birds seem to be happier outside but those two cling to me like Velcro and I think they want to be inside birds which I admit makes me happy because I miss the snuggles. But for now it's aviary life! When I get a chance I'll post contrast pics of Hammie, who can FLY NOW and is *mostly* not chewing his feathers anymore!

good to hear all is well!

Sounds like an 'exciting' few days

I'm finally feeling up to prepping "real food"! My birds have been patiebt with their pellets and occasional fruit but really that's not what I like to feed them. Still nothing fancy today but better than it has been! Now that they are in the aviary they eat and drink out if big glass bird baths.

Apples, bananas, snow peas, mango, bell peppers, banana peppers, cinnamon, oregano, crushed red pepper.

Much higher energy than I would recommend for a bird living in a cage but birds flying all day need more, and the weather is cooling off so they need it for warmth. Also I still haven't gone shopping so they get what's in the house!! Haha!

And this pretty girl always warms my heart :) love her beyond words. She loves to fly but she will be moving back inside as soon as our furniture (and cages) arrive.
