Rory ~ A male turquoise green cheek conure ~ Hatched 02-12-2013
Hello all my fellow bird lovers,
I have an update on my sweet baby Rory. We got the DNA sex test results and it's a boy. Poor baby I have been calling him a her sense we got him. He is doing great a happy little hyper baby boy. I could not be more in love with him. We have started harness training him and he is doing really well besides he just wanted to chew on it, but he pretty much just likes to chew on everything and anything he can get into his mouth. I have come to realize that having a parrot is like having a toddler with wings and that can climb. I love it. Thank for sharing in all my joy in this new chapter of my life.

He is very cute! I love his deep blue-green color. How did you get him DNA tested? Was it through a lab or one of those things where you send his samples through the mail? I've been wanting to have one done for Boomer.

My Vet did it for me. I was going to do it myself but I don't think I could take blood from him without crying. So I just let the Vet handle it.

One more pic he looks like he is ready to take flight but he didn't so cute!

He's so beautiful! Lol about the DNA results, I'm pretty sure ill be in the same boat, as miss Nika is displaying a few boyish tendencies. I'm having her done sometime next week, I've got the sample....she had broke (by accident) a blood feather, which she later pulled herself and I have it in the freezer. There's a bird place (breeder, supplies) near my job that I can do it. I'm pretty excited because the only thing holding me back was the blood-letting aspect of it, but now.....:) I'm all over it!

Ok explain what boyish tendencies are please. This is my first bird and he's a hoot!!!!! There is no way I could have done the DNA test myself making Rory bleed would just break my heart. We have a duck and I was getting her out of the bath when she was a baby and her claw got caught in the towel and ripped off, she started to bleed and I could stop crying and holding her. So I'm sure trying to take blood on purpose would just kill me.

Well, she's a bit "humpy" with certain things, like her favorite ball and sometimes a green toy mouse. :)I've heard girls can display this also, but I guess there's no way to be sure but to do the test. I totally agree with you on the bloodletting part, there's NO WAY I could ever make her bleed intentionally....unless it was a life-or-death situation. I thought about taking her in to have it done, but just couldn't bring myself to do it....she's suffered enough before I got her, I'm not adding to that. But this is a golden opportunity that I'm not going to pass up. And this little feather has at least several drops of blood in it. They'll probably tell me she's a boy like yours! Lol! But I'm keeping the name, she knows it and repeats it.

Lol bird humping that makes me giggle. I started thinking Rory was a boy because he is so freaking hyper lol, it cracks me up he can fly but he loves to run/hop around and he can move so quick not to mention he loves to climb I don't think I've ever seen him hump but, he is only 4 months old I'm sure I have plenty of hormone changes to look forward to. Oh and if your baby turns out to be a boy could you just switch to Niko?

I just love his colouring! Incredibly beautiful

and of course he chews the harness, the harness is a toy, EVERYTHING is a toy :09: hehe

I think if i had those amazing nails of yours, i would have no fingernails left after Fargo saw them ;)

4 months that is so cute, he looks so healthy and happy. Actually I thought of niko as a boy, if I do change it that'll be it. Plus ill have to switch out the pink girly stuff to little boy stuff like trucks and tools and stuff! LOL!

Has Rory gone for a fly outside yet? Or is he too scared and just sit on his mums hand :09:

Hahah! Before i had Fargo my nails were amazing, always long and painted with patterns, but now they are as short as possible and he still tries to chew them :31: Goodbye yet another piece of normal that i had ;) :54:

No he hasn't flown outside yet, but he was clipped when we bought him so he doesn't have to much lift yet. he can kind of hover across the ground and fly from the ground to my bed but his flight feather need to grow more. My hubby wants to keep him clipped but I want to train him so he can be fully flighted :D !!!
I am so glad I found an excuse to shop, I love to spoil my baby boy!!!!

Miss Taz, i've said it before, but I have to say it again: that Rory is such a doll!!! And he looks just like my Fiji in his little black harness, we have the same color. I love reading your posts about Rory, it just reminds me of how much i love my birdy and how happy I am to have a bird in my life! Isn't it just the best??? Thanks for sharing, I look forward to seeing more pics!
