As many of you know, I just *love* refinishing furniture (yes, it's kind of an odd 'hobby'):54:. Our poor dining table was starting to look pretty worn out, so it was my first project of the season:D When we bought it years ago, it was painted a horrid shade of grape purple and had a cracked/chipped up tile top. We immediately painted it and busted out all the tiles to put glass in the top instead. I decided to re-tile the top and take it down to the bare wood. I cannot describe the mess, physical pain (from bending and scraping/sanding) and despair of getting the paint off those turned legs. Even more 'unexpected' the awful purple paint it was when we first got it was over some kind of green paint that wouldn't come off with stripper:52: I had to scrape and sand it off. FINALLY, after 2 days of scraping, sanding and dealing with the gooey mess the stripper made, I got it down to bare wood. After staining and tiling it though, I have to say, the final result is worth it! And hubby said we can get new dining chairs, which I am over the moon about because ours are rather rickety. I'm thinking some of those galvanized metal ones, but I'm not in a particular rush.

This was my "inspiration". This is a $3,500.00 table. Turning a $5 thrift store table into something similar-ish seemed a rather far-fetched venture:

Not bad for never having tiled anything before

That is awesome! You did a great job!

Hey now that's nice!

That is beautiful and SO creative! :) I'd have never thought to tile a tabletop, but it works!!

If you get the metal chairs, some of your custom cushion covers would be nice!

Beautifully done, April! I love seeing your projects, thanks for sharing.

 Holy smokes, April! That table looks PHENOMENAL!!!

And I'm very happy to see here's someone with experience in re-doing furniture since I'll be doing quite a lot of that very soon(ish). :D

How long did this project take you?

RESPECT! Excellent job!!! :emoticonc :worship2:

April, that looks even better than the inspiration picture! WOW, fantastic job!!!

We picked out some chairs from Target, and they make all the difference in the world with the whole appearance. Goodbye rickety crap chairs, and hello awesome metal ones!:D:D:D

Thanks:) It took about 3 days of "hard work" (sanding, scraping, sanding, staining ext...) and an additional 2 days for the grout to fully dry before we could use it. I would not suggest anyone ever paint turned legs (or be very, very sure you will always want them painted). They are a nightmare to strip back to bare wood:eek:

And if you have any questions, feel free to ask. I'm pretty handy;) What kind of things will you be refinishing? You should post before/after pictures!

That is so beautiful! You are so talented! You did a great job refurbishing that table! How unique! You'll never find that at any big-box store! Kudos to you!

I will start with a dresser that was made sometime in he 70s. :54:It looks absolutely atrocious. It's sitting in our oldest son's bedroom. The whole room will be re-done for that matter since he moved out over 2 years ago.

The 'thing' isn't solid wood either.
