Clifford sneezes....I dont think its a real sneeze, I think he is mimicking the pet store owner who is allergic to cats, The poor lady sneezes every 14 seconds. And I swear he giggles after he does it. He is perfectly happy and full of life, but I was wondering if it is a good idea to take him to the aviary vet for a check up anyway, just to make sure I'm not suprised by anything later. I'm a little worried to take him anywhere right now because today is the first day he let me touch him without biting me. (he seriously loves head scratches). Do you think I should take him in for a check up, or give him some more time to get used to his new home and new owners before shoving him back into the bird carrier and taking him to see the doctor?

I think it's important with a new bird to get a full check up, but you can probably also wait a bit to bond more with you. And it won't hurt to do some fun in the car rides first so he won't always think he's going to the vet when he's in the carrier. I waited about 2 weeks before I took Pete. I took Rowdy sooner, but she just bonded to me like the second she saw me. I took Merlin on day 6, but I had to because she caught an infection being shipped to me. I would not have chosen that day as it was near blizzard conditions, but I didn't have a choice, lol!

I would also try to get a video of the sneezing to show the vet.

I will do that stephend, thank you

Well he is definatley mimicking the sneeze, my boyfriend has a cold, each time he sneezes or coughs, clifford chimes right in. He even mimicks the sound of him blowing his nose, and screams each time he reaches for a tissue. I'm starting to wonder if that is his way of saying he wants a tissue too. too funny.....

Oh yes it's not unheard of Parrots mimicing human body noise. Sneezing & coughing seems to be at the top of the list.

Frosty the SC2 has a spray can down pat.

If Clifford is eating, his droppings look normal, eyes bright & feathers shiny & his weight is good. I am sure it would be ok to wait another few weeks before a Vet visit. Although having said that. I have never had a bird hate me after a vet visit & sometimes it's better to get it out of the way. About the only downside is the droppings are a bit runny because of stress but that subsides as soon as you get home.

You know Parrots are a lot tougher than most of us give them credit for. It is us humans that make out it's a big deal & are more stressed over the visit to the Vet.

I worry one of my birds will begin imitating me blowing my nose. I'm sorry to say that the sound I make is NOT dainty or feminine! And I have allergies and pretty bad sinus issues so it is something they hear a lot.

Yeah Roxy i can imagine my hubby also has allergies & gets hayfever & boy when he sneezes 100 times in a row it get a bit much especially when he blows his nose. Although i sympathize with him, it drives me nuts.

I guess if your parrots think it's funny or entertaining enough to copy I am sure they will.:) Hehehe how would you know if they were indeed ill.

But its very very very funny when he does it! for now.....im sure it will get old sooner or later

My nose is awfully embarrassing! I honk! I already have a Grey that imitates belches and farts. She's the one I'm worried about because she seems to like those sorts of sounds, lol!

hahahaha. Just tell ppl she is immitating a goose? :-/

Well, I did use to teach high school. So all my students had to listen to me blowing my nose, ha ha! Thankfully they liked me or I'm sure they would have been making fun of me.

I'm glad I do live alone these days though; my illness is embarrassing for many reasons. Although, I did not teach Merlin her bodily function sounds; she came to me with that skill.
