Guys, I just adopted a moon cheek conure and he just arrived, and OMG I’m feeling so many mixed emotions. The moment I saw him, I thought, “Oh my God, he’s SO tiny!” 😭 I’m used to Rudi's bigger size compared to small birds, that even one of her feathers feels like it’s twice his size 🥹

I’m so excited to share his journey with you and show how he grow day by day 💗💗

I’d love your suggestions for a name that suits him and matches his bright, colorful vibe! 🌈

Cute. Sorry no suggestions for a name.

I had a peach-front conure named Moon Base One about 25 yrs ago.... his nickname was Moonie.

How about space themed names like Apollo, Aurora or Orion?

Good idea! How about syzygy? It means sun moon and earth are in a straight line. Moon is centered. You have to go online to see how to say it. I can say it but can't spell pronunciation. I know of it cause in my youth saw a race horse with the name.

Thank you all for your wonderful suggestions! I named him Melon because he reminds me of a melon—green on the outside and yellow on the inside, and even his scent is fruity 🥹💗

How's it going with Melon?

Yes! How is Melon since you adopted them? :D.

He’s doing very well! Melon has grown into such a cheerful, energetic little bird. He loves everyone in the household, and everyone loves him back, he’s truly the family favorite.

He has fully weaned now and is completely independent when it comes to eating. The only challenge is that he’s extremely picky with food! I worked hard to get him used to vegetables, but one day he suddenly decided he didn’t like them anymore. Even worse, he seems genuinely afraid of fruits and pellets. 🥲

I feel like I’m in a daily battle with him because of how stubborn he can be! Thankfully, he has started accepting vegetables again after I added some seed mix, but he still runs away whenever he sees any fruit or pellets.

Do you have any tips on how I can help him overcome this fear?
I’ve attached a few random photos of him! He’s grown up to be such a handsome little bird, don’t you think? 🥹
I have a feeling he’s a male, but I’m not 100% sure yet. I’m planning to do a DNA test very soon, so hopefully I’ll find out for certain!

Your baby has grown into a handsome cutie. You are now a member of the parrot owner brigade of how to get my bird to eat healthy. That's the on going battle we all suffer. Loved today, hated tomorrow isn't uncommon. Skim through the posts about tips and consider them. It doesn't matter the species. Not all tips will work. My CAG was eating her chop wonderfully. She got sick, recovered and now she's allergic to anything except sweet potatoes and recovery formula. Though she will eat her pellets.

So adorable 🥰. I want to be rich and have one of every color of GCC and Quaker!

Have you tried freeze dried fruit? I've never had a bird eat fresh produce, but they will pick at freeze dried. I don't sweat it too much. I must be doing something right. My RitzQuaker lived to be 24. Passed due to complications from a stroke.

Have you tried eating the vegetables with him? Piccolo will usually try something if I am eating it also. Sometimes it takes a few tries, but he will eventually give it a try.

I did! He’s completely uninterested in whatever I’m eating or drinking, even if it’s something he’s not allowed to have. Meanwhile, Rudi operates under the belief that every bite I take legally belongs to her- healthy or harmful, she doesn’t care, she’ll try to steal it straight from my mouth!

Congratulations on your new Moon Cheek! Such a gorgeous bird 💚 A few name ideas that suit their personality and colouring: Luna, Juniper, Sage, Cleo, Pebble, or Kiwi. Moon Cheek Conures have such a playful and bold personality so names with a little spark work well. What does her personality seem like so far — more calm and cuddly or more feisty and curious? That usually helps narrow it down!

Those are really beautiful names! I'll definitely keep them in mind if I ever get another bird.

I ended up naming him Melon. He's so playful and curious that it's almost impossible to get a good photo of him 😂

Also, I adopted another conure to keep Melon company—a Yellow-sided Turquoise. I named him Vivian, which means "full of life." He's incredibly sweet and still very young. I'll be picking him up from his current owner in two months, once he's fully weaned.

I would be the wrong person to ask for advice on names. My first conure I named Booger and DNA said it was female but, the name Booger stuck. My wife wisely chose the name Foxy for number two.
