I last took my 5 year old, male green cheek conure to the vet in February 2026 and he was given a clean bill of health. A few days ago he got spooked by something and flew around the house frantically which is okay alone but immediately after he landed on a perch back in his room he began acting all loopy and couldn’t keep his balance if he tried to move. He also started acting like he was trying to regurgitate but nothing came out and it almost seemed like he was struggling to breathe.
I am an idiot and used bug spray in another room I never take him into. I’m not sure if he flew through there during his freakout and got spray in his air sacs which I feel is most likely to have happened but really don’t know. He was better again within 15 mins and has been his normal crazy, goofy and playful self since then also eating/ drinking normally. the closest avian vet is an hour away also his carrier stresses him out ALOT and he gets carsick so it’s not easy to take him there because of the stress it puts him through. I have no problem taking him I just worry how it would affect him so I’d rather not put him through that. I also don’t know what the vet would even do like does he need bloodwork or something else? When I took him to the avian vet 4 months ago they did a quick exam then said he was healthy but I worry there’s something going on that we can’t see. I was thinking of calling them and asking if an avian specialist can call me back when they have time to answer questions/ decide what to do. Is that a good idea or just weird to ask? I’m worried this could happen again and then I’d hate myself for not taking him when I had the chance. I just don’t know how the vet could really help and can’t decide what’s best to do in this situation. Appreciate any advice you can give me so much!
