Hi everyone!
I'm reaching out to see if anyone has experienced something similar with their African Grey.
We have a one-year-old female Congo African Grey, and we've noticed that her pupil doesn't seem to constrict to the "classical" very small size. It's not a new issue — it's been like this since we noticed due to her eyecolor change from baby brown. (Other intresting thing about her, that she skipped the "greyish" eye color. She went from baby brown to this brownish yellow. Our older CAG was brown->grey->adult yellow)

Our older Grey "zooms" his eyes (pupil dilation and constriction) when she's excited or sees something interesting, so we're familiar with that normal behavior. However, the younger one has never done this.

Aside from that, she seems perfectly healthy:

Eats well
Drinks
Flies confidently
Very active
Move and fly around a lot
Seems to see just fine

Has anyone seen this before? Is it something to be concerned about?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Have you had her examined by a vet? They can shine a bright light into her eyes to check pupil light reactivity. If you dont have access to an avian vet, a regular vet can do this. If that's normal I would say she's fine. I don't know if you can duplicate this test at home.

For your piece of mind, I'd recommend a simple eye exam as stated above. She's acting normal, esp no problems flying and landing. It may be just peculiar variation. Similar to some greys having/developing random red body feathers.

Hello
We replicated this test. Out older CAG reacts to the pupil test. The younger one is not.

She is flying and landing without any problem and performs well in any "target related" tasks. As much as I would love to bring her to a vet to check her out, I am not worried enough to risk her catching any bird disease at the clinics. (Naturaly if something serious happens I wont hesitate)

Thank you for your replies!

My Bella doesn’t pin her eyes much.
I have only seen small variations in pupil size, she mostly uses her feathers (pin cushion mode) for dramatic effect.

She is about 9 years old.

I can observe some pinning from large to medium size, but she never made that classic very smol zoom.
Thank you for sharing!
