Sad news for the Chinese Geese, not one of their eggs hatched

Sad sad day today at work
As I drove in the Geese we waiting for me as they do each morning.

I walked up to them, and noticed that the male was walking funny.
As I approached him fell down and just lay there.

The garden boy was close by I called him.

Suddenly the male made a strange noise and turned his neck sideways.
He jerked a few times..... then stopped moving.

He died right there and then.

I began crying hysterically, saying this was not happening.

Staff members began arriving and came to see what happened.
They all stood near the fence, just watching.

I manged to turn him over to check if there were any injuries there were none.

The two females were going ballistic, flapping their wings and howling.
They started running around in circles, as if they knew he had died.

I then asked Wilson (garden boy) to get a box, did not want the other Geese near him, in case he had a disease.

I managed to pick him up and place him in the box OMG he weighed a ton.

When our boss arrived we had to break the news to him. He took it very badly, even began crying.

My boss then told me the male was about 16 years old and probably died from old age.

Later during the afternoon we buried him.

I am still so tearful, I got really close to the male. He would attack any staff member except me even taking food from me.

I shall surely miss not having him around greeting me in the morning and doing his little dance for me.

Oh Ant, that is heartbreaking! I am so sorry:( Those poor females must be so confused and lost right now.

Ant! I'm so sorry! What an awful experience to have the poor creature pass away right then and there. On the other hand, it's so comforting to know that you weren't the only person in your workplace who cared a great deal for the poor gander: it seems like he'll be missed by quite a few people as well as his wives. I hope they settle back down quickly to life as usual and I'm sure you'll help them do that with little tidbits and conversation. RIP Mr Goose: you were a good goose!

Aww, I bet it was great for him to spend some time with you, getting close to a person and taking food from you! Maybe he waited for you to get there, probably just so he could say bye.

Rest in peace lovely, thoughts are with you Ant, x

Oh! I'm so sorry to hear Ant! Very hard when you get to know them personally. Just like any person you see at work every day. I had no idea of their lifespan. Hopefully that's all it was, and that he lived out a good happy life.

I pray he did die from old age !!!
I tried to convince my boss to have an
necropsy done on him, he refused.

I actually loved the male guess more than the females, he was always friendly towards me.

Perhaps they felt a bit jealous !!!!

He is definitely going to be missed by many of our staff

I can see them from my reception office, if they begin making big noises staff would phone to ask if they are okay.

I phoned Wilson today, he said they are okay.......

Will check on them first thing on Monday when arriving at work.

It is so heartbreaking I am still in tears today

It was awful seeing the females react the moment he died.

By day end, they seemed okay and only then began eating which is a good sign.

The female geese are doing okay thank goodness
When arriving at work they ran up to me and began dancing.

A few weeks ago a woman at work found two Chinese geese on a road on the way to work.

They were a few weeks old, she cared for them at home until they got a bit bigger.

One is a male the other a female.

We now have them at work, in an enclosure, they are doing fantastic.

As soon as they are bigger they will interact with the bigger females.

Hopefully in the near future I will become a granny.

Geese are very cool birds. Totally different than our parrots. I had several geese when I had my "farm". They made great watchdogs, and kept my vegetable garden clean of weeds & bugs, and chased the squirrels, rabbits and chipmunks. They were somewhat affectionate to me, but, chased anyone else until they became familiar with them. Very fun birds!

The little geese are now together with the larger ones.

They are getting along beautifully.

The older female has already taken to the little ones, as if they are her own.
I tried to video them all playing in the little pond they have, but all bungled together and just sat there.
