I live in Maine and am looking to adopt a fairly well-behaved bird. I would be open to an Amazon/African or Conure. I have experience with Cockatiels and Lovebirds. I'm willing to travel a few hours for the right bird.

What are you looking for in a bird? The ones you mention are vastly different to live with.

Welcome and be welcomed. well behaved bird , eh? THat is all up to you and how they are trained and treated. My Salty is what I call well behaved, but still will scream up a storm sometimes, depending on what we are doing and how he feels. They are like kids - good up bringing prroduces well behave children. Is ther a parrot resscue near you? Volunteering there will expose you to all sorts of parrots and behaviours and you will get a better idea of what kind of parrot and the different behaviours they can have. Good luck!

Thank you for the warm welcome. Please allow me to clarify my "well-behaved" comment... I don't believe that I have the skills to deal with a parrot that has been abused either physically or emotionally. "Well-behaved" should have probably been replaced with "respected" or "tame" - apologies for my lack of clarity.

I'd like to introduce a bird to our family that is personable and able to bond with my wife, 9 year old son and 11 year old daughter. We do have pets: a golden retriever, chihuahua and a shy cat. I'm not concerned about noise, talking is not necessary.

We do not have any near by aviaries. Great suggestion though!

Thank you once again for your thoughtful comments and questions.
