My African Grey escaped on 12/4 here is Texas about 2 hours before dark. Would she have flown very far? Would she be able to survive long outside? What are my chances of finding her? I placed and ad with my local newspaper and plan on putting up some fliers. Please help! :(

She could fly pretty far, especially if scared. Put out food and water for her, or even put her cage outside - she will probably try to come back, but she is also likely so confused she may not find her way.

Grey's should be just fine in Texas weather but she's going to have to work to find food. Quite often lost parrots - particularly conspicuous ones like a grey - get taken in by other people and taken care of. The best thing you can do then is to get the word out with fliers, ads, etc.

Definitely post at: 911 Parrot Alert- Lost & Found Parrot & Bird database, Report a Lost Bird or Found Bird

You have to have an account (Yahoo I think) but if you don't it is free. Then you have to log in to a message board and post an ad, but it is the best source for lost parrots. Also check the 'found parrots' area in case someone posts that they have found her.

Good luck.

Also notify all the vets in your area. If a lost bird is found that is often one of the first places the finders go or call.

In your postings if not already done you could put in the words she likes to say if she is talking. I have a grey too and the vet just took off her leg band because it had a gap in it and vet said they are known for having serious problems for the bird such as a cut leg. We are all hoping you find her.

AD has given great advise... place food outside as well as the cage.
You did not mention how old the bird is.... how long had you had her for?
911 Parrot Alert is a great idea.
Keep us updated.
Praying she returns.
Don't give up
Take care
