LOST QUAKER - 67 Days

Hi everyone,
I am writing this with a very heavy heart. My teal Quaker parrot, Blue, flew away 67 days ago (March 2nd) from the Lake Harney Woods area in Mims, FL.
Blue is my soul bird. I hand-raised him from 3 weeks old. He got me through the devastating loss of my sister and stayed by my side through the grueling years of vet school. In two weeks, I move to South Carolina to begin my career as a new grad vet—a dream he helped me achieve—and the thought of leaving the state without him is unbearable.

I have tried everything humanly possible:

• Walked miles of neighborhood terrain every day.
• Hand-delivered 130 flyers to mailboxes and local hubs.
• Played hours of flock calls and his favorite music (Bob Marley).
• Kept his cage outside with fresh food and water.
• Successfully got his story on Fox 35 Orlando and featured in a Channel 9 article.

Physical Markers:
Blue is a teal (blue-ish) Quaker. His most identifying feature is a crooked toe on his left foot.
To the Community:
Since it has been over 9 weeks, I believe he is either with a wild flock or someone has taken him in. If you are a vet tech or bird lover in Central Florida, please look for a Quaker with that specific crooked toe.
I don't know how to move on without him, but I refuse to give up hope. My parents will remain in Mims to continue the search while I am in SC. If you have any leads, please contact me at 321-948-4780.

Welcome to the forums, @lindaalvarenga, though I am so sorry for the loss of Blue. Have you tried listing him on parrotalert.com as yet? You can check there to see if perhaps he's been found, too. We have had a few members successfully reunited with their parrots via their services. I have had a couple of birds get away on me over the years but by some miracle have always managed to get them back, I got one back via the method you used of delivering flyers around my neighbourhood. The only other thing I can suggest (that you may have already done), is alert all vet clinics in your vicinity as well, whether they are avian vets or not, as lost birds are frequently handed in to vet clinics if found.

I wish you success in finding him, I can only imagine how devastated you must be to have lost him.

Hello! Thank you for your kind words. Yes I posted him on parrotalert.com and the facebook pages Avian Alert, 911 Parrots, Parrot 911, Florida lost and found birds. I alerted the avian vets in my area as well as the shelters. I am trying my best I just hope wherever he is, he is safe

Heartbreaking! My not so secret fear is one of my birds flying away never to be seen again. Where I live in Maine a lost parrot (in my case Budgie) can't survive for long outdoors. At least in Florida you can have the comfort in knowing your baby didn't freeze to death. I would try to find comfort imagining him happy with the wild flock he joined or being taken good care of by kind strangers.
