:31:Hi!
I have had a Lovebird that is now 15 years old. I have noticed it is sick since May. I took it to a top Avian vet but after running tests he just said the WBC count was 50,000, very high and gave me three meds for him. These were two antifungals and a antibiotic. I saw no improvement. I did not take the bird back because of the high cost (over 700 dollars for 2 visits) and still the bird is not better. He just was not as active with some fluffing and varied sized droppings --sometimes wet. In the last month, I note he holds his head to one side but is capable of full range of motion to both sides and he stopped flying. Also, the area directly around both his ears has lost the feathers in a circular pattern. There is no redness drainage or swelling . He eats pretty good and has not lost or gained weight. The vet said his blood work showed normal kidney/liver function. I am presently giving him Celebrex twice a day as an anti-inflammatory and for any possible discomfort. He frequently picks the feathers off of his back---I think he is displaying some type of discomfort by this behavior. I was thinking of possible PDD but not all the symptoms line up for that. A few days ago I saw a reddened area at the very base and back of the tongue but am not sure if that is abnormal. Has anyone noted symptoms like these with their bird? It is so hard to figure out what is wrong with birds even after taking them to top notch vets---so frustrating because you still do not know what is wrong and costs so much money. He is such a special pet very tame and sweet.
