When I uncovered and woke up the Twins I found Luna bleeding from one of her nares.
It looks like it had just started as the blood had not gotten to the bottom of her beak.
Seems like it could be.
Merlin over grooming her and injured by accident.
Luna did it to herself scratch with her toe claws or rubbing against something.
Internal bleeding, broken blood vessel.

The last is most scary but least likely (IMHO) as blood would be on both nares or so it seems to me.
Waiting for vet to open in about 1/2 hour see if I can take her in.

Awwwwwww poor Luna, and poor you, Wes! I also think the last of your possible scenarios is the least likely, but hope you can get her sorted soon!

Blood can look so scary but it isn't always serious. Luna doesn't look too upset about it. Hopefully she just picked her nose too hard and bled a bit. I've seen birds with a claw up their nose before so they definitely can pick their noses.

She had a second run of bleeding, small amount coming from other side too.
Going to keep her caged and grounded.
Pumping up her B.P. With flying seems…..
Unwise.

I tried separating The Twins just in case Merlin was causing it but both birds unhappy with that.

My CAV not in till Monday.
My alternative exotic vet is also not in till Monday.
All my calls came to nothing.

I don’t know why this always happens on weekends.

How's the humidity in your home? Dry weather and allergies started causing nosebleeds for me a couple years ago. Prior to that I had never had a nosebleed before. Hopefully is something similarly benign for Luna

Humidity is good, 60% or so.
Using swamp cooler gives plenty of humidity.

This morning no new signs of bleeding.
But she was rubbing her beak close to her nares against the cage bars a bit much.
Something is irritating her nose.
Merlin and Luna spend a lot of time preening each other, I mean a lot and Merlin can get a little rough sometimes.
Will try to get her in to the vet Monday.

Going to cost extra but can’t be helped.
Taking her/them to the vet is not ez.
I can’t really control Luna, she’s not a tame parrot.
I can maybe put Merlin in carrier first to get her in .
And then they can both fly.
At the vet I don’t know how we’re going to control them.
Can maybe, MAYBE keep Merlin in my hand while the vet technician grab Luna with a towel.

If either bird gets loose it’s going to be pandemonium in the exam room.

I have a similar setup with one of my outdoor dogs. Stunningly beautiful, exceptionally large AKC German Shepherd I bought from "an Amish family" a few months ago.... I don't think this dog is *ever* going to trust me. He likes my ex which is helpful for grooming and other hands on stuff, but is absolutely *terrified* of me and most other people from what I've seen. He is bonded to my female German shepherd tho, and she is very bonded to me, so it works well enough. I think of him as her dog 🤣 he is settled in enough to bark at strange things and people and it's working out well so far. I am still trying to bribe him with treats and kindness, but I don't ever expect him to be my best friend, and that's okay. He's got a forever home here anyway.

Glad to hear Luna doesn't have any more blood today. Hope all goes smoothly at the vet and it's not too expensive or anything serious

I'm sure the avian vets are used to birds flying around in exam rooms all freaked out. I'm sure they're also used to getting bitten. Just get out the towels!

I’m so sorry about Luna. It really is hard handling parrots who aren’t tame in anyway. Mine can all be handled, and will bite a vet anyway. My macaw got ahold of his vet. She was bleeding pretty good the first time they met. My assumption is she seen me handling him, and she may have assumed he was friendly to strangers too. Anyway he decided his vet needed to learn a lesson. I felt so awful. I wonder if that’s why she keeps canceling the appointments with him. He had to find a new vet. My misbehaved child is probably going to go through a few vets in his lifetime.

My Ekkie got a nasty infection a few years ago rubbing his nostrils over everything in his cage. He does this every single spring. Be careful, and keep a lookout for sneezing.

I will keep Luna in my thoughts! I hope she recovers quickly.

Yeah CAV vets know how to control parrots that are uncooperative.

I wish I could find one in my area. I just appreciate the ones that will see my parrots when they are sick. I’ve been told CAV are by far superior when it comes to parrots if we ever get one here.

Luna is complicated.
She’s a rescue with no real background.
Found on a sidewalk in San Diego.
She does like me but has definite limits.
Mostly I move her around on a mini iPad as a perch.
But she won’t go anywhere she doesn’t want to go.

As has been mentioned hormone season has been long . Started in April and that’s normal for her but she’s still showing signs of mating desire.
Only problem with that is she corners Merlin and does her mating dance and Merlin just wants her to leave.
Sometimes he steps ON Luna to get out of the way and that really inflames/ encourages her to more.

I should add I don’t know if Merlin is a boy or girl.
