Meet Genevieve and Phaedrus

I get asked that a lot, actually haha
Their differences don't show up very well on camera, but they do have a few distinct characteristics!

Genevieve has black feets and less turquoise on her. She also only has one flight feather right now. She was clipped when I got her, but I'm allowing her to become flighted.
Phaedrus has pinkish feets and quite a bit of turquoise on him. He also has a gorgeous set of full flight feathers in.

They have different body language as well, but that's largely because Phae is still adjusting to being in a new home. I'm at least his third owner ):
But he's starting to get more relaxed and develop new body language characteristics, so I've gotten them confused from afar a few times as a result. When I walk up to their cage, Gené comes running right up to me, where Phae kind of hangs back and chirps at me like a cricket.

...But the feet is the easiest way to tell.

I hope a double post is okay, as I didn't see Kalypso's post until after I hit enter ):

I live in Tallahassee so there are no breeders or specialty bird stores but I am willing to put in the time and effort to tame one. The caique or lory would be more for me as I like them. I dont plan on them getting along. Its always best to expect the worst. Im not home all day so thats the main reason for another bird. I have a spare cage that could be used for a budgie out in the garage. It may come into use soon.

Oh sorry, I thought you were looking for a buddy for your tiel! I do think a budgie would be a good buddy for her, but there's always a great chance that the caique or lory (or any bird) would get along with your tiel if they're raised around each other (:

Ya it would be a great plus if they got along but you never know. The budgie would be intended for Kalypso but birds like what they like. I really like black and white budgies and yellow budgies.

Keep me updated on what you end up deciding! I get excited when it comes to new birds :D

These are my budgies:

I made a PVC playstand for my conures, but the budgies took it over so I moved it over near their cage. They're so much happier now, which makes me happy and ups the vibe of the entire flock.

Zero is my favirote coloring. I love how pretty a bird can be with such plain colors. I most will get a budgie but next week I leave on a trip and then in April I have a concert in Jacksonville to go to. I also have a few trips in June so it will be likely late July or August before I add to my flock.

I do believe he's considered a mauve budgie. I also tend to like the plainer plumages in birds.

I really wanted a turquoise conure before I got Gené and Phae (and I still kind of do), but another conure just isn't in the books for me.

Turquoises are so pretty. I met two at a bird fair. I dont think I really want a conure. I already have a list of species that I would like to add in the future. Its a slow process but it will eventually happen.

-budgie
- black lory
-black headed caique
-orange wing amazon
-goffins cockatoo

I think the congo grey I'm getting will be my last permanent member.
I hope to foster in the future, but I do believe I've met my limit.

Instead of a grey I nearly got a galah cockatoo. Toos are too needy though. And very loud. They don't mesh well with my situation ):

I love the burrito look! ba ha ha!

She loves her blanket so much. I bought it in anticipation of bringing her home, so she's always had it. She'll jump off of her cage into it if I hold it up, and she often falls asleep in there if I wrap her up.

Well, she loves being wrapped up in fabric of most kinds, but her blanket is really special to her.

Your budgies are such pretty colors!

I mentioned in another thread that budgies were not beginner birds for me. I had parrots for years before getting mine. Twigs and his buddy who died. If I had only known sooner what wonderful pets they are!

I'm surprised to say that budgies have actually become one of my top favorite species. I'd like to get an English budgie one day.

Budgies really are amazing little birds. One day I think I'd like to have a small aviary full of them. I kind of want to breed them as a hobby and raise up the babies myself.
One of my favorite traits of my little shrimps are the noises they make. I watch a lot of horror and serious movies, and my birds are in my living room with me, where I spend most of my time, so they all watch TV and movies when I do.

After a serious or sad scene happens, the budgies love to make this ridiculous WHEEOOO sound that never fails to make me crack up laughing.

A well-liked character dies on The Walking Dead? WHEEOOO!
Heartwrenching monologue? WHEEOOO!
Dramatic fight scene just finished? WHEEOOO!

I still have no idea where they learned that noise from. But I'm so glad they did.

So cute! Im so ready to pick one and take one home! I'm going back Thursday to play again so hopefully that will help me decide which one i want.:green1::yellow1:

Aw! you have a cute little flock there! greenies are the best! :D Thanks for sharing pictures of them! :D

Bert; I'm confident you'll love whichever gremlin you decide to bring home (: Please do let me know which you decide to get! And I expect pictures! haha

kq_fan; Thank you! I'm very fond of my little green monsters. I like to think they're very fond of me, too.

I'm sorry, what's MBS?
...Multiple bird syndrome? o:
I know that once I get my grey, I'll have reached my limit. Unless I get another budgie to add to their mini flock, because they're rather self-sufficient. I just feed them and let them out each day to hang out on the playstand I built.

Gené was upset that I was "neglecting" her to clean the room instead of fawning over her, so she took the loudest bath ever in her water bowl, and kept stopping to make sure I was looking.
Now she's being incredibly snuggly.

It took me a minute to figure out what that could mean. I haven't talked to too many parrot owners prior to joining this site, and I hadn't seen MBS used before.

I had quite the urge to get several more birds a few months ago. I was feeling really anxious about getting the "wrong" species for me, and there were a lot of "what ifs". I really wanted a dusky pionus, really really badly. Then I almost adopted a senegal, and then I really wanted a galah cockatoo. It took me a while to get my head straight and firmly established with myself that I cannot save them all. I cannot take in every baby and neglected adult.

Once I decided that a grey fit in with my life the best, my desire and anxiety about other species of birds quieted down.
