Meet Mr. NoNameYet [update post#13]

25 February 2012: Update in post#13 of this thread to read: Galah has a name now & how he greeted me for the first time.

Hi guys,

I thought of posting some photos of our Galah who I haven't met in person yet. I would really love for him to have a name very soon. If you have any name suggestion for a parrot, feel free to post.

I received these photos of him from my mum. I am returning home to him and the family in March 25th , so you can just imagine, I am COUNTING the MINUTES remaining to be able to meet him in person :red:

My family say that he is such a clown :D with a very funny personality. He is friendly and good at making you laugh. They also say that he loves to chew, but that they are working on by giving him chewable toys. He still tries to chew on your clothes and fingers, but the family are working on by distracting him ; having a chewable toy in hand and giving it to him anytime he tries. They said that anytime they enter the room, he calls for them AWWWH bless! and wants for them to carry him <3

We (especially me) are doing lots of readings in different resources about this breed of Cockatoo. Not only is this Galah our very first Galah, but also our very first parrot to ever live with. Needless to say, we are complete Parrot-Owners-Newbies. But for sure we started learning/reading about how to care for one so far - still learning and have so much to learn.

We read that fruit and vegetables are recommended for his diet. My famiy try to feed him some fruits (started with a banana) and veggies (started with a lettuce) but they say that he prefers the sunflower seeds. We read that it isn't too healthy to feed lots of this sort of seeds. on the other hand, our galah shows the biggest interest on them with little to no interest to the fruit and veggie. We don't know how to teach him to have more of fruit and veggie and less seeds.

I have his photos that my mum sent to me in my iPhone ... not the best photo quality as they were taken with my mum's iPhone, but once I get back to them, I will snap tones more photos with my Camera (photography is a hobby that I love and animals are creatures who I love so much ... My favorite creatures to photograph :) )

Anyways, here is his photo introduction.

AWWWH I am running out of patience to finally meet him <3

Now we are *assuming* that our Galah is a male due to this fact:
"Both male and female Galahs look the same and can only be differentiated by the color of their irises. The male has brown irises while the female's are red"
. Quoted from one of the websites where we did our readings on Galahs.

According to my mum, Mr. NoNameYet has dark irises (brown to black, but not red). If the above quote is true, ours is a male. But I am just also wondering, could it be that since ours is 6 months old, he still didn't fully mature - maybe the color of irises can change to lighten up?

I really have no idea, but one thing for sure, he will soon get a name.

If you have any cute name suggestions for him, feel free to add. My mum is waiting for me to give him a name, but I am clueless at the moment.

hmm, i would call him Grigio...purely beacuse i discovered i like Pino Grigio rose wine, and the colour made me think of it... but to be honest i think names are going to be what ever falls into place for you when you meet!! x

If you can get the book Parrots for Dummies you will have a very good resource for learning the basics. It is very important that you understand their nutritional and social needs. There are so many things that are toxic to our birds in the environment. There are also toxic foods. A bird cannot survive on seeds/peanuts are a no no. Pellets, fruits, vegies, grains, legumes, nuts (no peanuts) are some of what he should be eating. Make sure to hook up with an avain vet also for baseline health exam in the near future. Because birds are prey animals they will hide their sickness. Have fun when you meet him. There was a clown here where I live named Bozo. Do you like that name??

Kat wow, what a beautiful looking fella he is, it was love at first sight for me
His colouring is absolutely awesome, he looks so healthy as well.
Bet you are so excited, counting the days
Let us know how it goes when the little fella arrives
Good luck

I love the look of galahs. I think you should name him Dior, because pink and gray is such a stylish color combo.

Thank you all for the name suggestions. We named him: Dante de Rose. He also goes by Mr. Pink or Mr. Wings. Sometimes, just Dante for short. He is also nicknamed "Matto" which means Parrot. Dante learned to say Matto :D

Ok so yes, I eventually came back home and met him. Here is how his greetings to me went...
I returned home from a trip only to find a new member of the family. Here is how his greetings to the complete stranger me back then went...
The second he saw me, he went dancing he performed a dance by shaking his head & neck to the left and to the right...left and right...left right ...left right. Now that's a creature who knows how to have fun in front Of someone completely new to him (me back then). While hearing me talk to him, he went by saying "hello" he said it and pronounced it so well and in a VERY cute voice <3 I offered my arm and he jumped right on it and started blabbing. He enjoyed his time on my arm and acted as if he knew me long time ago. I swear, what a personality and character he is, I thought at that moment (and still think). I was just meeting him for the first time and he was like as if we haven't seen each other in centuries we named him: Dante de Rose . He is also known as Mr. Pink or Mr. Wings or sometimes just Dante for short. He is soooo much fun. Has a beautiful combination of colors. A beauty from the outside, but a CLOWN from the inside he makes us laugh all the time.

I knew nothing about parrots. Never had one before. Did not plan on getting one, but my mum did , and she chose a galah for our family i am loving every moment of owning this full of charechter bird. I continue learning about them. Dante de Rose teaches me

It has been 10 months now since we had our Dante de Rose. Totally love him!!

Great name :) What a beautiful bird !

My galah's name is Echo, because of the grey... An echo is grey, I think... lol
