Model/figure painting thread

Came down with a cold this month, but despite losing a week to that, I got quite a bit finished. A solid start to the new year! First, the kill team I mentioned before. Painted them up to look like yellow jackets. They managed to sell pretty fast too.

Next is a kitbashed character I've had waiting for a paint job for a while. I've always thought the space marine bikes were pretty cool, so I'm glad I got to finish this one.

Last one I finished on the 31st! This was a Christmas gift and I did a lot of prep work in order to do what I had in mind with them. Anyway, here they are with some very fancy free-handed shields.

And that's it for this month! Currently, I'm not too sure what I'll be tackling next, but the most likely thing that I want to work on is some Battletech mechs since I finally got a lance I've had my eyes on for a while.

Had another slow month so I'm posting 2 months of progress instead. First is something a little different. My local group has a pretty big Battletech community. I'm only just starting to dip my toes into the tabletop side of things, and here is the first real start for my army there! This is also where I decided to pick up a new trick called "lense jeweling."

Next up is 2 kill teams I made in order to sell. The first was what took up most of my time since chaos is pretty notorious to paint. They've got loads of trim, random small details, and the models are generally very busy. It's easy to miss stuff on the first pass. It was also an excuse to do more rust effects because I found it quite fun to do on the bases for the bugs last time.

The second team was where I came up with the idea to do 2 teams to sell. I mostly wanted an excuse to use a fancy helmet in my bits collection. My main army does not really have a use for it, so I wanted to put it to better use. This ended up being more involved then I expected but I'm happy with the results. Also, because the sargent can be fitted with a whole bunch of different options, I magnetized his arms so he can use whatever fits the situation.

I also got more confident and tried the same jeweling trick with the eye lenses!

Last was a side project while painting both teams. This was taking up space in the shoebox of primed models, so its nice to get this out of the way. Another big bug for my second army.

And that's it! I plan to at least paint one bike for April since that was my very first painted model.* This will mark my 3rd year of painting minis! Aside from that, I'm not sure what I'll be working on since I like entering a monthly discord painting competition and I don't know the theme yet. I've got a bunch of characters that have been building up, so hopefully I can get those taken care of.

April marks my 3rd year of getting into the hobby of mini painting, and it has been a really productive month. I did a bunch of stuff from different themes, but let's start off with my boys in green.

The first is a little something to show 3 years of progress (right) vs how I've done after 1 year (left) with an outrider. Fitting since my first painted model was also a bike. I tried not to get too fancy, but I had to do some freehand flames just to show off a little.

Next is a Lieutenant. Despite the running joke in the warhammer community, I don't really have one, or at least not one with an established paint scheme, especially for the helmet. Makes for a good generic leader character in my games.

Last for my army is my second chaplain. It's kinda hard to beat how well the 1st one came out, but I liked the dynamic pose of this one so I wanted to pick up the model. Should have added more purity seals but I'm happy with how he came out.

Now to move on to something a little different: fantasy! I thought the model looked really cool, but drastically underestimated how complex and busy the model It has skin, metal, wood, fur, cloth, tubes, gears... but you get the idea. I'm glad to get this project done and out of the way, I don't think I'll be starting a skaven army anytime soon... maybe.

Lastly, something even more different, something modern! I really wish there was a larger version of this, but the tiny one will have to do. It's an interesting little military vehicle called Fox. It's a car that someone stuck a tank turret on top of. It's a silly little thing and I wanted to paint one up.

I don't quite know what I'll be doing in May. I might do a few more characters at the least since one of them is going to be a bit of a pain to do in so many sub-assemblies, but we'll see how things turn out.

3 months late for this, mostly because I kinda forgot to post last month so I got a lot of ground to cover. The bad news is that I've not had much time to work on my own projects, with only 2 personal projects done. The good news is because I've had someone repeat commissioning me over the past 3 months! So, time to share my work.

Let's start with the comms. I don't have pictures of the first two because one was a bunch of heads that were hard to take good pictures for, and second was a whole bunch of terrain that was a royal pain to paint by hand. Also even harder to take a single picture of it. So for the stuff that's more in my wheelhouse...

Two Night Lord kill teams, one with jet packs and another on foot, with a LOT of magnetized heads for some reason. I get paid to paint, not ask too many questions. And a sisters of battle kill team. The guy was nice enough to even send me a gift in the form of even more bits and whole models for my Sallies, and my "pile of shame" ended up doubling overnight. Speaking of my boys in green...

Ten heavy intercessors, pretty much the basic troops but in heavy armor, and a custom character. A librarian with jump pack! For some context, space marine librarians are pretty much space wizards, and that's about as cool and terrifying as it sounds.

The ten heavies included two extras to finish a memorial trio. I made one of them to honor one of the three birds that have been a part of my life for my life: Bingo. WIth these guys, I had a chance to give the same treatment to the other two: Patcho, and Plumas. Now I have that little extra to remember my beloved pet birds.

But anyway, that's the last 3 months of work. My commissioner has been keeping me busy and he sent me another team to work on, so I'll have pictures of that for next month at the very least. No idea what I'll be doing for personal projects but I've got plenty to choose from. I just hope I get the time to tackle them.

I continue to suffer from success as this month, I've only finished commissions and could only start on my personal project. But, I'll talk about that later. For now, 2 commissions from 2 returning buyers.

First, for the guy who is pretty much my patron, and the one who asked for all the previous teams in my last post. A Deathwatch kill team. A faction that takes some of the best of every space marine chapter in an elite anti-alien force. Each one has a few small touches to make them fit with their respective chapters.

Next, for someone else, surprise surprise, even more Night Lords. A slightly different color scheme but still funny how I seem to be painting a lot of them specifically. The arm of the guy on the bottom right is magnetized, so that's why you see that near his base.

My patron has another commission on my desk, and we've already talked a little about 2 other teams he wants done, so the commissions are not stopping anytime soon. As for the personal project, it's something kinda special. I don't want to spoil anything, so I'll just say its a bigger model that my army has been lacking for a while.
