Well, my Marley (B&G) suddenly decided he likes me. It is all my fault...

He would never step up, never ever dream of cuddling and nip at me. Then 2 days ago, boneheaded me FINALLY realized what Marley has been trying to tell me for 2 years!! He wants to step up but is VERY frustrated that I don't understand that he only likes to step up backwards!!!!!

Once I figured that out, he will step up every time and often refuses to step off of me to get in his cage. He rubs his head all over me and preens me like there is no tomorrow. In an instant he went full on Mush Mac and Velcro Bird.

Now, the issue I am having is he has to be up my butt constantly. Do you know how hard it is to clean a Mac sized cage when the resident keeps climbing all over you and preening your arm pit hairs. lol

In all I guess I could have worse problems...

A HUGE shout out to Mark (Birdman666) for all the help in getting us to this place with each other!!!!

Marley is one happy :blue1:bird!!

Yeah. Sally prefers step down as well.

You knew what you were doing. Not really sure what I did.

Glad to hear it. And when they finally open up to you like that? It's like letting the Genie out of the bottle. There's no going back...

Setting up the schedule will reduce the clingy bird syndrome. I'll get you in a little bit. It's not your time yet. Some of this is just making up for lost time... and I imagine will get a little better as the routine gets put in place.

Ever since Sarah moved out Maggie's been on the clingy side as well. And Sarah taught her to climb stairs and come looking for her... (Thanks a lot.) So, she doesn't stay put and wait for you to come and get her anymore.

Nice! I love reading about breakthroughs like this!

It's crazy how something as simple as a preference for how to step up could lead to such a massive breakthrough!

Yeah, sometimes I bet they feel like they're telling us something loud and clear, and we must appear so dense to them in those moments! Hahaha!

But Marley never gave up on training you, and is using positive reinforcement now that you have finally learned what he was trying to teach you. He can't chance you forgetting the lesson, can he? Lol!

Great news for you!

Now if I could just convince Mark to take a small vacation in Oregon.....

What a sweet update, Steve!!! No, I have no clue what it's like doing cage maintenance while being pummeled by a big mac. Care to explain in detail how it's done...preferably with a picture tutorial? :D LMAO!!!

Yeah, wait until he decides that one of those arm pit hairs just doesn't look right.

"This one's crooked. Hold still, I'll get it." YANK

"Oh it could not have hurt that much, quit being such a big baby. Look there's another one... YANK... Don't you ever groom under here?!" :D

I AM speaking from experience here. I get this multiple times a day, from multiple birds on my beard/mustache/arm hair/eyebrow hair.

They haven't discovered underarm hair yet.

My short and curlies are off limits...
They spend enough time on my lap as it is! If they ever figure out there's a preening toy down there... I won't have any zippers left! :11:

Where's that grad student looking for the unexpected problems with birds again... ?! :D There's a thesis for you... !

And, Birdman, You were right! He has mellowed about being up my butt every second. He will now happily get back in his cage but will still step up EVERY time.

He adores attention but does not so much demand it. He has definitely become a dream bird.

The next big step is to see how he reacts with me being gone to work for a month and my return.

My stepson will try to keep him entertained...

Yeah. That's called making up for lost time...

I've had really good luck with large macaws. We just seem to "get" each other.

Chances are this bird will be clingy with someone while your gone, and clingy with you for a few days after you get back. That's what usually happens to me.
