Parrots
Amazon parrot & Goffin’s cockatoo
I’m currently staying at my boyfriend’s house and havent been home since the 20th, so my family has been caring for my parrot. I texted my mom to ask how he was doing and she said he’s been quiet and hasnt finished the bowl of food i left for him before i left for my boyfriend’s house. I had only filled his bowl halfway with zupreem natural pellets since i intended on giving him veggies as well but i forgot to give him his veggies before i left. He loves food and usually goes through a bowl of food a day so i find this very concerning. My mom said he did eat a little bit of veggies but i still find his behavior out of the ordinary since he usually eats all of his pellets. Its possible he may be depressed but his eating habits dont usually change when i leave. Im going to try to get back home as soon as possible so i can check on him

Parrots tend to become sad when their main human flock member isn't around. They can have altered behavior if/when that flock member returns. Is there a way to do video chat for a few minutes a day? Or even speaker phone? That may help. Decrease in activity and food isn't uncommon. The problem is ensuring that it's not a physical problem.

I called my mom and talked to him yesterday and he sounded happy to hear my voice so i plan on calling to talk to him again today. I’m only staying at my boyfriends house temporarily, and would never leave him permanently. I’ll be going back home tomorrow so ill be able to see how he’s doing

He may not want you out of sight. My CAG insisted on being in same room with me. That was after a 10 day emergency hospitalization. It took her awhile to settle down. That was where she and I learned about video chat.
