My bird got part of her wing stuck in glue trap

Two things, a warning for bird parents and an appeal for any suggestions for helping my poor parrot.
I have had this tiny fly catcher/ LED light glue trap in a place she can access for 6+ months. It never crossed my mind to be wary for her safety. In freeing her I tore out a flight feather. Other feathers on this wing got damaged & she reacted by stretching her leg & moving weirdly for several minutes. 5 min. later she appears fine and just flew across the room to her ceiling-level swing-perch. I am pretty sure she is ok. But I hope this post could spare another pet from this scary, awful mishap.

Oh @Louzparrot, thank goodness your girl escaped with minimal injury, those glue traps certainly can cause a lot of damage! If she still has glue stuck to her feathers, the best thing to use to unstick them is a water based lubricant such as KY Jelly. That should then make the glue easier to remove by rinsing it off with warm water. Thank you for sharing your experience, in doing so you may just help someone else avoid going through this with their bird

Poor thing! If you can't get all the glue off you could trim off any badly affected feathers. All I can picture is flies getting stuck in the glue on her wings!

I've always used veggy oil when in similar situations. Veggy oil and then nice safe gentle soap, and warm water. Dawn is a good soap to use. Thankfully I've never had a critter get stuck over a *huge* area of themselfs. Worst was a cat who got fly paper to wrap around her, she needed an actual *bath* bath, the others just a washcloth and a "spot clean" did the trick.

Always scary and unpleasant tho. I've got a faceful of fly paper too once or twice. Yuck!

I've gone thru this with cats, and even a wild snake once! And they all recovered fully, tho definitely needed some time to recover from the scary stressful experience.

The PF member who started the active thread "Doing it wrong" is handfeeding two baby IRNs and one had a ruptured air sac. They say the baby recovered from it fine.
