My cat attempted to attacked my conure

I had taken precautions ever since the indecent. If I'm not home I put my cat in my room so my conure can fly around the house & what not. I decided to keep my cat, just being more responsible & more aware...thank you very much for your reply, needed to read exactly what you said. Thank you again.

I would think it would be better all around to have things the other way around. when nobody is around a bird should be in their cage to avoid any accidents in general, not just cat related. Meanwhile to lock a cat in a room isn't exactly fair on them is it? It's not your cat's fault they have instincts.

keeping cat and bird separated by a door is always a good way, although you do need to make sure you make it a habit to check before the bird is allowed out

When no one is home my conure is in his cage. Usually if I'm not not home my mother is, & she supervise him. & I barely put my cat in my room unless I know people are coming over... for some reason he's terrified of people (strangers) to point where he pee himself. He was a rescued, so I'm guessing he was abused or something.

Both cats and birds are intelligent animals capable of deep bonds. If you can't keep them both safe in a forever home you shouldn't get both.

It's not hard to keep predator and prey animals apart...if you have high prey drive pets don't let the "living toys" out around them!

My cats are terrified of my green cheek. They avoid him when hes out and give his cage a wide berth. They are fine if my bird is out, but i would never have my bird out with them in the room otherwise. My cats are one of the few exceptions, most would love a feathery new toy.

My boa on the other hand would swallow my feathered buddy in seconds and not even care...so they are never ever out together.

I hate to see cats and dogs get ousted from (what i assume is) a loving home just because somebody got a new pet on a whim.

Ps, have you ruled out veterinary causes for your cats peeing issues? That's not even a little bit normal...if it's not an infection you need to see a behaviorist.

Parrots and cats a high % of the time mean dead parrot, or traumatized so much they are no longer companoin material. A lot who experience this are too ashamed to post about it and we never hear from them again. Sorry if this seems cold hearted but parrots didn't ask to be put into houses with a predator. If our cairne terrier was not a lump ( literally - sleeps eats poops and sleeps some more, she would have been rehomed. Plus she is scared sh*tless of Salty. My opinion, but I know Salty will never be eaten or have a heart attack becasue of a cat.

My thoughts exactly! A friend who was enchanted with Ollie thinking about getting a getting a parrot has like 3 cats. I was like 1. You can get rid if the cats or 2. Wait until the cats die and then get a parrot. This person was shocked by what I said to them but I explained it like this: Would you want to live in you're house with a known murderer? Yes they have not murdered in a while and seem to be okay with you but would you EVER truly be comfortable in your house knowing you and your loved ones are in danger at all times? That got the point across. I hope I didn't offend anyone with my example...if so I'm sorry. But I whole heartedly recommend you re-homed the kitty.
