Whenever I play her any soothing melody on my phone, she tries to mimic it with silent "yelling". (She's a golden caped conure.) Is this normal?

That is commonly part of the learning process. You may never have a voice over repeat of the song, but you will have her version.

Yes, that's what she does. In a way, it's funny, but I was not so sure if she's startled by the sound or if she simply likes the melody. Thanks for the reply!
