My new fid!!! Skyler

OMG!!! I need to make lots of bags of food!!! I don't have her recipe yet though. Saphire is a beautiful name. And suiting. :D I am so happy for you. You know what, I have been talking to my mom and dad about Skyler, and although they were not happy about it at first, my dad is even really warming up to the idea of having a talking parrot in the house. :D lol. Granted Skyler and I will only be here for about a month and a half, two months or so. But he even seems excited. So that makes me even more stoked about it!!! I really cannot wait.

And my mom just offered me to use her car to drive to NC to pick him up at the airport instead of using my car because hers is a lot more safe. :D

That's great! You don't want to worry about your car when your bringing Skyler home! My breeder mentioned how much easier it is to have the fruits and veggies all cut up, maybe with some cooked pasta..make a batch then freeze separate bags so in the mornings you can dethaw a bag instead of putting it together every morning..and the brown rice.. Which sounded good to me since I have to get out to work every morning. I also ordered a food ball that you can put fresh veggies in so she can forage that during the day...I keep hearing that they are big eaters!

I will have him on Thursday. Just talked to Lilly and it works best for her. So I am super excited!!! And I am going to be getting the menu tomorrow and taking care of all that. :D

Congrats to Jew and Miriam, I know you two are so excited. I know I could not wait for Abby to get here.
Just remember it will be a big change for the fids... and Eckies are reserved parrots... . and just give them a little food at first... The main thing is to get them water.. I would place them in their cage with the door open and talk to them and let them get adjusted to their new home.

Don't be disappointed if they just sit and stare and move to the back of their cage at first.
You must gain their trust.

Mike

Thanks. That is actually exactly what I was planning on doing and expecting. I know I would be all out of wack if I was thrown in a carrier, left there for hours to come out to a whole new place with a bunch of new people. It would bother me. So I am going to bring him home and put him in his cage with the door open and just let him be as I play games on my computer and talk to him. :D Its going to be awesome!!! Congrats Miriam. :D

So, my work came to me about having Friday off to go pick Skyler up and they apologized to me for the mix up. They didn't realize that I had already changed the date to pick him up and they gave me Friday off anyways. So I am going to be taking the day off and taking him to the vet and going to sit by his cage all day to give him time to get used to me. :D Its going to be awesome. So excited.

Count down.... :)

My delivery from Drs forester and smith came today! I Just love getting goodies for the birds and have the rest off the stuff foe Saphera! My breeder also suggested letting her go right into her cage to settle down and talking to her as soon as I get her at the airport... I'm glad your work situation worked out...I told my boss today that i Need to leave early friday:D

Awesome!!! Congrats. I am glad the work situation ended up alright as well. But I was thinking about it and its going to cut in to a lot of the time that I would spend with Skyler. I think I am going to quit anyways. lol. I will get two more full paychecks if I give them a weeks notice on Sunday. What kind of goodies did you get them? And I am picking Skyler up at the airport in NC so I will be talking to him the entire ride home. :D And I am going to be taking him and placing him in his cage and leaving it open until its time for bed and then I have a vet apt. the next day at 310. It's going to be good. So exciting for the both of us!!!

I got her the sisal twister perch, a mega munch ball, a triangle swing, sunflower seeds to sprout, a buffet ball... I have other shred able toys for her also...I can't wait to see what she likes and watch her play with them! I'm happy you can stop work to spend more time with Skyler!

I am too. Trust me, work and school full time is not the life style needed for taking care of this bird properly. I have my GI bill to thank for not needing the job though. If it weren't for that, I think I would be working full time, school, maybe... And would only be dreaming of getting my bird still. :D

Those toys sound awesome!!! I know I need to get Skyler some more to play with, but we also have a lot of children's toys I am going to go through and see what I can do with. I watched a video of an Eclectus who's owner had him roller skating. It was the cutest thing ever. lol. Obviously they were special made.

Two more nights now and I will have him. :D Its going to be awesome!!!

Oh my gosh, just read it and I can TASTE your excitement!

HAHA!!! Nice. I actually did sleep very well last night... But I had a couple beers with a buddy and played hold 'em. So I passed out about 2 in the morning and woke up at eight.

Anyways, the night is not the important thing. I GOT HIM!!! Granted there were some complications and I ultimately decided that I cannot skip out on another day of school to go down there another day and pick up this specific bird I have posted pictures of. So I talked to Lilly, and she gave me some options and sent me pictures of some other birds that she had that she was able to send out the next day.

I chose a bird that has red markings on its neck as well that Lilly said would go away in about two years. He is four months old, knows his up/down command and everything else is up to me to teach him. He came off the plane chattering away and just seemed to be in a very good mood.

Once I got him in the car he chirped a couple times during the two and a half hour drive. I brought him inside and he started chatting it up with my mom. lol. And was very interested in American Idol.

I, however, did not get home until nine something tonight so I made a small bowl of food for him and sent him off to bed. When I got him in his cage he sat there for a good couple minutes just staring at me. I ran upstairs to grab a cover and when I got back down he was already exploring his cage, looking at everything in it.

I will have pictures posted tomorrow because as far as my work knows I don't get him until tomorrow and that is how I would like it to stay. lol. That and he is sleeping. :D So cute!!!
