I made this sign for our front door to warn incoming family members and guests if there are birds out and about or not.... It's made on a chunk of solid white maple, and done by wood burning....one side says "welcome", and the other says "birds in flight, keep door closed"

Here's a progress shot

And done! (It's hung by a suction cup on the glass)

[Note: if you try your hand at wood burning, please make sure you do it outside or in a WELL-ventilated area away from your birds since these types of projects do produce smoke from the burning]

Very nice, you're so talented.

Nice Shirre! Next time I visit I will have to take a closer look & maybe try it out (you know Chili wants to taste me again)

You should stop by soon!! The pears are ready!

LMBO chili....oh she's such a sass.... Chili either loves or hates strangers, but seems flower just loves everyone

I love the sign, Shirre! What a wonderful idea!

That's great :). I'm not at all familiar with that type of art. I'd imagine there are special tools to do the wood burning? Is it iron letters and designs?

There's a wood-burning tool you use...it sort of looks like a soldering iron, but you just plug it in and the tip heats up (and you can change tips depending on the effect you're going for) and then you just "draw" on the wood. Depending on how hard and long you press, depends on how dark and deep the burn is....

It's easiest if you draw the artwork on with pencil first, and then start burning. It's a very time consuming craft, which requires a lot of patience, but the end results are worth it. Plus if you mess up, you can always sand it out hahaha

Beautiful work, Shirre! Looks very professional.

Just seeing this for the first time...loving the idea...great artwork by you.

The sign really turned out nice! What a beautiful and artistic way to let others know your birdies are out and about.

I know right..I might just have to bust out my wood burning tools and get to a craft store
