This behavior has started to happen this last month, maybe because my other gcc yellowsided passed away due to an accident… how can I make him be more friendly..
Hello dear, my conure is 1 year and 5 months maybe 6 months now. Im his first owner and today I had him in my shop and he flies freely there everywhere, a young girl wanted to pet him and asked me if its ok and if my bird bites, I told her ofc not because never in my mind I would think that happy would bite a young cute girl… I felt very bad and shamed afterwards because it was a bad nipSorry to hear of this!
How old is your conure? I know I’ve probably asked before but can’t recall.
How much socialization has he had with others? Does he spend most of his time with you or has he met others successfully in the past? Is he showing any signs of hormonal behavior you've noticed?
She has no socialization whatsoever when I have guests he will crawl to the person he likes if he wears something flashy no problem wont bite the person ofc she is with me all the time I have a very special bond with her only flies to my finger, im her first owner, yes a lot of hormonal behavior, 2 weeks ago she was trying to mate with my finger but we got past that as she know now not to do that anymore. She is not regurgitating to me its been 2 weeks since.
Well my girlfriend lives with me but ofc happy dont like her and she does not like happy either, happy likes my father but we live in different cities so not many interactions with my father… happy will also bite other parots not all the time but every other conure happy met got bitten, otherwise he is so friendly and chatty very exited parrot all the time wants scratches I even click pin feathers, will preen my beard and listens to me. I love happy very much I just want him to be more friendly with othersAwe, it sounds like you two have a very special bond ♥️
It sounds like this could be a mixture of hormones and just lack of experience socializing with other people. Since he is showing some hormonal behavior he could be getting a little possessive/territorial over you if he sees you as his mate. Is there a close friend or family member you could slowly introduce him to over time to let him experience being around some other people?
