Hey Everyone! I just found this quiz called Myrightbird that asks you questions and shows what bird/birds would be good for you based on your life style. It gives a summery of the bird and basic caging/diet needs. I was wondering if this site is accurate at all? If nothing else its fun to see what it gives you. I got a Pacific Parrotlet for a 97% match :D

brb let me see if it matches me correctly

LOL. Matched me with a Senegal, a species I never even considered in my search for a bird and know little about.

I have been happily owned by an amazon for over 9 years:) Still a fun game though!

The first time I tried it matched me with a Blue Fronted Amazon. :p

nope paired me with a jardines parrot not a green cheek.....site is broken....

No! it's probably a good first step! I just can't imagine being with anyone other than Clark.

I can fix their site this way though....

statistics fixed.

Very accurate! :D :gcc:

you can tell it's not photo-shopped....it would have been a lot cleaner job!

I got cockatiel! They don't have normal greys on the list. weird.

I was paired with a female Eckie... which funny was one of my 'dream' birds until I actually met quite a female female Eckies :)

I was an Adoption Coordinator for years for a large parrot rescue and I can tell you with absolute certainty, no doubts or questions, the right bird for you is the bird that connects with YOU.... I obviously believe in adoption and allowing an adult bird (past sexual maturity) to pick you. And following that path myself, I ended up with a bird that never once did I ever consider or want - a blue and gold macaw. I always said I was not a macaw person, never had an interest in the extra large guys - green cheeks are the birds that converted me to a bird nut. But, from the moment Max stepped up on my arm and face planted into my chest, there was no doubt that HE was the right bird for me, whether I wanted a macaw or not. I would get teased at the shelter about all the times I said I was not a 'macaw person', but I would always laugh and respond, I'm not a macaw person, I am a MAX person. Max could have been any size or color, it is all about the individual that Max is that makes him my best friend and perfect match :)

It's a cute program and game, but don't take it as gospel... every bird is different and while it may say a Pacific Parrotlet is your perfect bird, my time working with birds, I can tell you there are wonderful parrotlet and there are ones that are little jerks.... ones that are social and enjoy everyone, but many connect with one person and are nippy with everyone else. If you have the opportunity or chance to go to a shelter or rescue and meet a bunch of different birds, and see who connects with you. You might need to stay with a size range for cage or where you live, but still there is a wide array of personalities in the small to medium birds, and like the big guys, parrots of every size have their own unique personalities!

Good luck in your search!

I would love to go to a rescue but there are none that are near enough for regular visits. I have no problem driving 4+ hours for the right bird but that distance is too much for regular visit's and I can't get to know a birds personality with only one visit. I'm still searching though! Thanks!

oh yes you can know a bird's personality with one visit... I knew within minutes that Max was 'my' bird and right match... literally, he stepped up on my arm, face planted into my chest. We hung out a bit and I got up from the table to use the restroom and he ran across the table and doing the macaw 'whimper' with wings trembling trying to follow me or go with me.

Does not happen everytime, but 9 out of 10 adopters who would come to the shelter, would leave that day knowing the bird they were going to adopt.

Again, it is about letting the bird pick you.... If there is a shelter 4 hours from you, talk to them, they may have a volunteer or shelter friend that is closer to you and you can visit the shelter once and they might be open to transferring the bird to a shelter associate friend's home to complete the adoption process.

But, whatever path you take, wish you the best of luck and hope you find that perfect match! Everyone should have their own Max ;)

I got Senegal, and my SO got Jardine’s!! We are indeed Poi people :D.

So I say the test is highly accurate LOL!

Its kind of accurate because i got matched with a Cape Parrot. When i was first looking for a Parrot thats one of the 2 i wanted and felt would be suited to me. They are hard to get in the UK though x

Well, to rephrase the Rescues I've been looking at require more than one visit.

Um... no. Amazons are pretty cool, but I do NOT want to live with one. I hate it when sites try to pair you up like you are mortgage shopping; “What’s the most you can handle!?” Style.

I dont know if anyone else has found this but if you click on the other bird "icons" you can see what percent you are matched up by.

I got orange winged Amazon. I guess it was sort of close since I do have an Amazon, although there is quite a bit of difference between an OW and a DYH.

I got a Red Bellied parrot! Clearly the quiz is skewed to push you towards a poi

There are a few key questions I find left out of this chief among being what space do you have for a cage and how large a parrot are you happy to handle

I got a Moluccan Cockatoo! Lol so that's interesting because I do want to get a Too at some point if him or her fit into my lifestyle. As of right now we're not sure if we want to move back into NYC or to Paris so I can't get one because they would not be that great in an apartment and I'd be pushing it my the 2 birds I have already. It's kind of wrong though because I want a Goffins!
