Ozzy has started to become pretty vocal now. She loves to sing along with music on the radio. But here lately the last few weeks she has been doing something new and not sure what it means. She is just now 10 months and boy does she have a personality of her own.........She has a game she likes to play kinda like catch me if you can. Ozzy also has this fetish about paper in the top of her cage and it's become a problem to her so she throws her paper in the floor and once you go to put it back in she tries to bite you....she is very spoiled rotten and it's very hard for me to discipline her for bad actions do not know what types of actions to use to try and stop the behavior before it becomes a big problem. Ozzy is the biggest LOVER you will ever lay eyes on. She is my babygirl......

What type of bird is she?

Hi Carbar, welcome to the forum, just from what you've wriiten, I would suggest one of two things, one, stop using paper on the top of the cage, or if when Ozzy throws the papper on the floor, leave it till you put Ozzy up for the night, it appears that the paper is the key to the aggressive behavior, thats about all I can suggest without more info......

First off, welcome to the forum Carbar! I hope you enjoy your stay here. :)

I would agree with Bobby, If the paper has become the source of the aggression, stop using it :)

Welcome, you will love it here!

My Ekkie loves paper, BUT it has to be the right size and shape or he will be really aggressive towards it. He LOVES it scrunched up real small so he can hold it in one foot (I usually hide treats inside). He always attacks large flatish pieces when I offer them to him. So yea, probably stop giving it to Ozzy, at least in the way you are now.

Good advice Ben! Funny, Hiroshi is the complete opposite. He loves flat sheets of paper and once I scrunch it up he brutally attacks it like that "jedi-cockatiel" attacked those bullets ;) lol

Hiroshi is yet again one step closer to being a Samurai lol

My 14 y.o. ekkie goes hormonal crazy with paper. She shreds it in attempts to nest and then won't let you anywhere near the cage. So to curb her hormones I limit her fat intake and only give her 2-3 nuts a day (in tiny bits for treats and rewards), I put her in a sleep cage at night (a large bird travel cage) in the dark for about 11 hours and I don't give her any warm mash.

Those measures really turned my hyper-hormonal girl around. She is still hormonal but way turned down now and not as territorial.

Carbar,

My African Gray LOVED to be naughty when I was changing paper in his cage. We even had a bit of a routine where he would scold himself..."you better be good." :D He would try to sneak down to grab some while I wasn't looking, and stop when I turned my gaze his way.

Once again, I discovered something unexpectedly about his little bird brain. When I put it in the bottom of his cage, he shredded it mercilessly. It was like he couldn't wait to do it.

However, when I put it on top of the grate, he would leave it completely alone. I have no idea why this was...it still mystifies me.

Plus, it had the added bonus of keeping the grate clean, and not just the bottom tray. A win-win.

Regardless, I still gave him some balled up paper like others have said, as he really enjoyed rolling it around on top of his cage and turning it into confetti to clog up my vacuum cleaner.

ah nofear, you're lucky. My conure would go right after that paper on the bottom grate and tear it away like superman.
