Need help and please fast

Hello guys. My 6 week almost 7. Old indian ringneck just started his first flight yesterday and he was just eating great but from this morning he wont eat anything i try to but no matter what i tried fruit seeds the formula there noting that he/she will eat. And i havent seen him/her with so much energy and he is moving from one place to the other i am to worried my bird is sick i know iets only been a few hours that he been ago but i care to much about him/her

Fly first, eat later - makes sense because in the wild they have to find the food first before they can sit down and eat it...
and learning to fly is FUN!

I hop that i am so worried about him and if it keeps on so how long but i take him to a vet because i live in iraq and there aren't gooed vets around her

I understand your worries - when I got my first birds and esp. problem parrot we did not even have internet (or cable TV / whoops, I am oooold )
It's great you are here (online anyway).

As long as your bird is lively and active do not worry too much.
(The americans will be waking up soon- so you will get advice from experienced ringnek-keepers as well .)


I think he just really, really has his mind on other things than food.
Could he have been eating before you saw him first thing this morning?
(you can always gently feel the crop to check)


Can I be curious about Iraq for a bit?
Literally ALL the people from Iraq I have met sofar (not very many) are all birdenthousiasts and wil keep some once they can.
Is this a national thing?

Moving around actively is generally a sign of a well bird, as mentioned above he may just not feel hungry. Good pick up on the eating tho. Any small behaviour change signs for bird owners can be an indicator of possible illness. I understand that avian vets are hard to find in your area, but i would reccomend you to possibly have a search again, there may be a qualified avian veterinarian available that you missed. Regardless of health, it is always a good thing to get your new bird checked by an avian vet for an overall health screening. Welcome to you and your fid to the forums

First of all, how hot is his formula? IF his formula is between 40 degrees Celsius and 43.3 degrees, then this is normal. At this age he will likely require it to be closer to 43.3 in order to accept it.

Welcome to fledging! It’s the most exciting and most frustrating period of hand feeding! Yes, he will be flying every chance he gets. Offer him formula at least 3 times a day, AFTER about an hour of play time. He will lose a little bit of weight during this time and feeding will be frustrating and annoying but RESIST THE URGE TO CLIP HIS WINGS! This time is vitally important for his mental, emotional, and physical development! Also, to avoid accidental aspiration, he should go back in the cage for a couple of hours after each feeding to avoid him hitting a wall with a freshly full crop.

SilverSage nailed it, it's most-likely simply that your bird is fledging...

HOWEVER, if you are not using a cooking/candy thermometer to measure the temperature of the formula you have been feeding it and ensuring that it's between 104-110 degrees F (40.3-43.3 degrees C), then you must worry about either a bacterial or fungal infection in his crop/gastrointestinal tract...Has his crop been emptying over night?

Most people who buy an unweaned baby in your situation/area of the world are not told anything at all about having to feed them formula that is at a certain temperature, and unfortunately we see these posts all the time because the babies are very sick due to too-cold of formula being fed to them..

However, usually these babies are much younger than your baby is at 7 weeks old, and are not fledging...so hopefully that's the issue, but if he doesn't start eating at all today either, or if he suddenly becomes very lethargic, sleeping all the time, vomits, etc., then he's most-likely very sick due to the formula temperature...hopefully that isn't the problem...

Welcome to the forums, thanks so much for joining and caring for your ringneck.

I am not familiar with young ringnecks, so can't give advice for your concerns. If you cannot find a nearby veterinarian, perhaps a local falconry club or organization may help? They may know of specialized vets for falcons and similar birds of prey.

Please let us know if you see any changes, or hopefully, success with fledging!

Just curious about where you get your ringneck from? Do you have breeders in Iraq? I know UAE has them, but not sure about Iraq. There are also feral populations scattered across many pockets of middle east.

Or do they come from South Asia?

Thank you so much for the information and your 100% right about the breeder that dont say anything its just you searching for information yesterday he ate about
20 ml and i check for the temperature of the formula till it was right and he/ she also ate some water melon and seed

Yes there are breeders but most of them arent parrots they breed most are just pigeon or some smaller birds
