green cheek conure
I am driving myself crazy looking for a cage. I want a sturdy one with enough room for my conure to play and live and be happy. Most of the cages that I can afford that meet all my little friends needs say they have 3/4 inch spacing between the bars. I have researched for days and am still not sure. The breeder I bought him from said 1/2 inch or he might get out. Another pet store person tried to sell me one with 3/4 spacing and I told him what my breeder said and he laughed and said if the green cheeks he had in the store could get out of the cage with 3/4 spacing he would stop selling birds. I am asking the community of green cheek owners to tell me what their personal experience is. What size cages are your birdys in? Can I get a 3/4 space cage and my baby still be safe? I have a yorkie at home and it would not be safe if he got out alone while we were at work with the dog.
Thanks

3/4 is too wide, not that he will get out, but he could get his head caught! Look into flight cages, there are many large ones with good spacing.

Teeko's cage has 3/4 spacing and he has never gotten his head stuck.. I never thought about that, I guess I'll have to keep my eye on him.
He's only been in it for a year so it could still happen, you never know.

In any case, I'd go for the biggest cage you can afford with 1/2 spacing. Playtops are great too.

I'm sure you can find something better with a quick search.

Teeko's cage is around 38" x 28"(?) x 60". I haven't measured it since I got it, so that's just a guess. Hope this helps!

My conure's bird cage has 3/4" spacing and she's never once had problems in the near 3 years we've had her in the cage. She's in a Prevue Hendryx cage. She's not a large conure either - she only weighs about 70g on a heavy day.

This is the cage I have for her:

It's perfect and she's got a good amount of space. She has no problems climbing on the cage, perching on the cage, and she definitely can't get her head through.
