I swear Bowie is doing this stuff on purpose just to stress me out...I don't cry often but I have cried more about Bowie being sick or injured in the past year than I have throughout my entire life...

We got hammered with this snowstorm that started yesterday afternoon (though we didn't get the 15"+ that they said we were going to), and it finally stopped snowing this morning around 9:00 a.m. We got a good foot of snow total, with some freezing-rain coming down on top of it...So we all had our Sunday breakfasts early this morning so I could go out and shovel the driveway and the sidewalks, and get the car all raked-off and thawed-out...I put everyone in their cages and went outside for about an hour and a half...But somehow I didn't close one of the doors to Bowie's cage...I don't know how, but I didn't...I came back inside and there he was, sitting on top of his cage, covered in blood all over his face...

I can only guess that he flew over to Kane's cage (Senegal) and was hanging-out on the perch attached to the front of the cage, and he and Kane started "Pecking" at each other, because Bowie has 2 puncture wounds, one on each side of his beak, up towards the top...luckily they didn't bleed much, we're lucky he didn't bleed to death while I was outside...He's got 2 good holes in his beak right under his cere and on the sides of his beak, with the cracked keratin top-layer still there...but it's ugly and it must hurt a lot because it's right under his cere and he is not a happy little guy...I cleaned his beak with anti-bacterial soap so I could see what had happened, then cleaned the punctures out with Hibiclens, and put some antibiotic cream on them, and then he got a dose of Metacam in some orange-juice...He drank a little and ate a bit, but was having trouble with his pellets...So I guess he's having eggs later and maybe some oatmeal...And a trip to the CAV tomorrow (I'm not bothering taking him to the 24/7 Animal Hospital we have here, as I have Metacam at home, and they can't and won't do anything that I haven't already done)...He might need some Acrylic/Epoxy put in the holes, I don't know, we'll find that out tomorrow...

Right now he just doesn't look good...He's sleeping huddled-up under my hair, and he just looks like he doesn't feel well at all...I'm sure it's painful, and the Metacam makes them sleepy, but of course I'm freaking out...Hopefully he'll snap-out of this and be fine again...He's like a little tank, but I'd much rather he didn't have to show how strong he is over and over again, I can't take much more of this...He got through the septic-infection he got over the summer from his toenail being infected, now this...

oh my gosh, poor fluff :( I know it won't help much, but I know how bad you must feel and I hope he get's better, sending you a hug too

Oh Ellen,
your animalfamily really keeps you on your toes!

Of course lots of positives etc. headed your way. :07:

(Maybe a stupid question but did Kane get away without a scratch? It is obvious he got the last word in, but not sure who started this and planted the first real bite.)

Autch, that little beak must really hurt.

Poor little dude - that probably hurts :(. He’s in the best hands (yours) as you knew exactly what to do to clean it up and make him comfortable - and you’ll get him in to the vet tomorrow. Lots of positivity coming from my flock to yours <hugs>.

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear this. I'm sending all of my love and prayers and best wishes your way. Get better soon, Bowie!!

Ughhh...if it isn't one thing, it's another. SO sorry for your stress and Bowie etc...I will be sending positivity your way!

Oh Bowie! You have to go easy on your mom, little guy! All positive and healing and comforting vibes coming at you from me.

The secret life of Parrots and their abilities to drive they Human's even more crazy. Very sorry to hear of this most recent crazy moment.

Our Avail Vet used a dental product on our Yellow-Winged Amazon Beak when he cracked it and then was rubbing it against the cage bars. I'm certain that your Vet will have it. It worked great to stabilize the Beak until it grew past that area.

Huge, Warm Amazon Feather Hugs and Prays.

My gosh, Ellen, I'm so sorry about Bowie. It seems never ending for the poor guy. Of course, if he was one of my guys, I would start to wonder if he was doing it on purpose just to get to my nerves too. Hopefully what you've done for him is all he's going to need, and just some snuggles with mom. I'm sure his beak is sore, but hopefully it will be a learning experience for him to leave Kane alone. I'm sending positive vibes for Bowie to get better quickly, and some for you since Bowie keeps stressing you out.

C’mon Bowie, you legend, you little champion, you’re tough, you can get through this, you’re in the best of hands. As for you Kane you little bruiser, you gotta learn some manners young man!

Oh Ellen, I'm so sorry! Positive thoughts and prayers to you and Bowie. Hope he's okay through another battle. Poor baby [emoji22]

Bowie feel better! I'm sure his GCC self wouldn't just back down and fly away. I hope it heals fast.
My GCC is always finding new ways to escape her cage, some I never figured out to. But thankfully has only been at night, when she wants her one on one time, and no stupid cage is going to stop her!
Thankfully Bowie has an expert to care for him!!!

Oh, for mercy's sake, Bowie, stop being such a little trouble-magnet!

Ellen, you know I luv and appreciate ya. Hang in there, gurrrl.

Cry if you need to, but I hope you don't. :)

Well, he's doing alright, we go to the CAV at 3:00 today...He's sleeping right now, I don't know if he's sleepy because of the Metacam, or he's sleepy because his beak hurts, or both...I spent all night worrying about him and didn't sleep, now I'm exhausted...and it's -5 degrees F outside right now, so venturing out at all isn't going to be fun, let alone with a tropical parrot...I am insulating the carrier with fleece blankets, Hot-Hands, and covering the whole thing with a heavy blanket for my sprint from the door to the car...It's "Freeze your tongue to a metal-pole" cold out there!!!

Kane is perfectly fine, I'm assuming that Bowie stuck his little beak in through Kane's cage bars, and he used his big beak to crunch-down on Bowie's. He's the only bird in the house with a beak big enough to do what was done, and the "holes" in both sides of Bowie's beak are "Senegal" size, so there ya go...but Kane isn't bothered by it at all. I asked him if he hurt Bowie's beak and I swear he smiled at me and winked...

I'll update later when we get back from the Vet, I'm sure he's going to have to fill-in the holes in his beak, they're ugly!!! Doesn't stop him from eating though, I was going to make him oatmeal last night until I saw him holding a pellet and chomping it down with no issue. I think it looks worse than it actually is, and of course I'm freaking out about it while Bowie just wants me to stop cleaning it out and putting stuff on it...

:41::41::41::41::41: Good luck...

Well no acrylic for Bowie's beak...yet. The vet cleaned it out yesterday, the left side is just cracked and he's not worried about it at all...However, the right side has a pretty deep "hole"...And that's exactly what it is, it's a hole, about the diameter of the tip of a Senegal's beak :(...It's deep enough that he bled a good amount from it after he flushed it, so we're letting the wound heal, and then he'll probably have to have it filled with acrylic after it heals from the inside out..But otherwise he's fine...He's not happy at all, still seems a bit "off" today and grumpy, but he's okay.

Certainly hasn't effected his appetite at all, he's a garbage-disposal, I swear...He can have whatever he wants at this point, as long as he's alright..

Ouch!!! Poor little guy!!! Holes are scary! To easy to get infection trapped. Dang hope it heals quickly and easily.. thanks for letting us know!

He's working this for everything it's worth. He's playing the "I'm injured and I'm pathetic, please feel bad for me" card...He's very pitiful right now...Until he gets a snack, then he forgets that he's pitiful until after he finishes the snack, then it's right back to "Oh woe is me, I'm very sad and you need to feel sorry for me"...And I'm eating it right-up too...

Ever see an animal with "Bandage-Paralysis"? Where they are wrapped-up in a bandage for something minor but they look, act, and feel like they're dead? Yeah, it's exactly like that...

Ha, ha - I can totally picture the “woe is me” look :)

Oh Ellen, so sorry Bowie is burdened by an injury. With your skills and vet assistance, he'll be on the mend.

A good appetite is certainly helpful. Let us hope he'll be able to fend of potential infection.
