Hey i really really need all the advice i can get. So neon has eaten some stupid piece of this fried/salted thing. She ate it and almost immediatley she started sneezing, like she shut her eyes and shook her head and kept sneezing continuosly and then her voice got really wierd and squeaky and kept doing little sneezes and small strained squeaks. I got really freaked out and i gave her a lot of water and a medicine/tonic thing. After some time her voice became normal and she stopped sneezing but it still has a different pitch and strained edge.

Annd i checked on her some time ago and she sneezed again.and her voice was kinda wierd but after two-three chirps it became normal again. I think it hasnt fully cured yet and im starting to really worry now. There is no avian vet around here so i dont know what to do :(
Any help please?

1. What exactly did she eat?
2. WHAT exactly did you give her? (water & medicine tonic????) Do NOT give any human meds to a bird - not ever!

Its this fried-salted-gram thing.
The medicine ive given her is called cifron. Its what my pet shop uses. Ive given it her her many times and its very effective. In fact the shop guy says that i should use it regularly like twice a week. i dont use it that often, but its not dangerous or anything.

Cifran or Cifron? Never heard of Cifron.

If it's Cifran, please STOP giving it to Neon immediately! Cifran is a brand of Ciprofloxacin . No need to give your birds antibiotics UNLESS you know what you are treating for/against. It can be dangerous.

Don't know what a 'fried-salted-gram' thing is...sorry. What are the ingredients in it?

Lol sorry its fried green gram, with salt and chilly powder and all that. Its like a snack...
And yeah its cifran. I dint know it was dangerous! :( the pet shop guy uses it a lottt. He says its like a general tonic for birds and he tells me to it to her every second day. He even suggested it for when she had mites. I dont use it that often but i use it sometimes and it works very well. :( :(

I would definitely stop giving Neon the antibiotic. Remember, antibiotics kill GOOD/BENEFICIAL bacteria, too.

As for the 'snack', perhaps Neon just got some chili powder up her nare, hence the sneezing. I'm sure it'll stop all on its own, especially if she only had a little bite of it. :) You could try giving her a nice bath to see if that'll clear her nose back up. Or take her into the bathroom, run a super hot steam shower, and let her sit in the steam (NOT the actual hot water).

Okay i'll stop that medicine.. So you dont think its anything serious right? Pheeww i was freaking out:o

First thing I was thinking was chili or pepper of some kind. I agree with Wendy's advice! She should be okay, but antibiotic is not a general tonic  the pet store guy has no clue sadly.

I hope Neon is feeling better and acting normal!! Wendy has given great advice!

The reaction may well have been caused by spiciness on very sensitive tissue. In this case the innocently misguided "cure" may have been worse than the problem.

Sorry for the late reply.:o neon is fully fine now.:D:D
Im obviously going to stop the medicine.. Just asking, is there any medicine which works for everything?? Like a general tonic-ish kind of thing? Something i could use every time neon decides to eat some creepy thing?
Thanks everybody:)

An avian vet. That is the only solution.

There is no general cure because every problem is different. An anti fungal won't do a thing to help a bacterial infection, an antibiotic won't do a thing to cure a parasite infection, and none of them will help if the bird eats something toxic. The best plan is to prevent your bird from eating anything that you are not already sure is safe. If you have any suspicion that something is wrong, take the bird to the vet right away.
