I was contacted by 70 year old lady who got seriously ill, she cant take care of her 20 year old Blue Front "Aatu"... Aatu is moving with us on wednesday, she visited us (with Aatu) today to see our house and us.

Åke was so happy to see Aatu, they screamed and did all the happy Amazon stuff for 30mins straight.

That's Aatu in his travelling cage and Åke on top of it.

Poor dogs are going to be really outnumbered by the Hookbills! With great hope, the Parrots will not learn how to call the dogs! :D

Aatu did some barking already, he has lived with dogs :)... I'm imagining it's not gonna take long until they are all 3 barking... + 2 dogs barking =)

How wonderful and cute she is! Congrats and hopefully they'll go well together! Keep us updated on the process and how it's going! :D

First impression is that they are going to do great, Åke and Aatu were both super happy to see each others. Åke was sitting on his cage and Aatu didnt try to bite his toes and neither Åke tried to bite him.

Actually we dont know if Aatu is he or she, he's not DNA tested (yet). Aatu is a nickname from "Aatami" (Adam), his owners (that lady) name is Eeva (Eve) so she named him Aatami (like Adam and Eve).

He speaks A LOT, sings, whistles, laughs, barks like a dog, meows like a cat etc etc. Aatu i mean, not the lady =)

I'll keep you flooded with pics and videos + updates as soon as Aatu moves here!

Looks like Åke is going to have a beautiful new friend! I'm sure you reassured the lady Aatu will have a great home. Wishing her well as she confronts illness.

European BFA's seem to primarily be of the a.aestiva subspecies, generally known to be a bit calmer and more in line with the personality of smaller zons than their wild a.xanthopteryx brothers:p. Wonder why they are so much more prevalent over there? They are rather unusual over here in the US.

Congrats on your beautiful new addition! Generally, amazons tend to get along well with other amazons (no guarantees, of course), but they are social and flock oriented by nature. Hopefully both your beautiful green guys get along well and become best buddies. It's super sweet to observe buddy amazons together:)

20 hours and counting..

In 20 hours im back home with Aatu =)

You have to admit it's funny. XD A well-trained former police dog stayed with us once and Gabby drove that poor pooch crazy commanding her to come.

Your house is a really happening parrot place! It looks like Åke and Aatu will be the best of friends. I hope the grey doesn't feel overpowered by the Amazons, but considering the brainpower at her command, she'll probably figure out a way to lord it over them. Amazons are very smart, too, but there's a more "cerebral" feel to greys. Amazons are goofy smart. Greys act like little stuck-up Einsteins. :)

Thanks for sharing. I love hearing you speak to your animals in Finnish. I'd like to see more videos if you have time to make some.

Aatu is here now and i got few new battle scars =)

Åke was super over excited and attacked me few times while screaming with Aatu and doing all the happy stuff.. He just couldn't help himself... Nothing serious, just some bites on my arm, i'm getting immune to them :P

They are now calming down both (Aatu and Åke)... Lets see if i can make video later today :)

There's a possibility the two Amazons could pair-bond, leaving you as the disfavored person. Luckily, there are people on this site who can help you deal with this issue. I didn't have anyone willing to work with Gabby, so I didn't dare have anyone else handle him but me, his pair-bond partner.

Yep i know, i'm trying to avoid that... Åke is really jealous about me at the moment, Aatu is hand fed as baby and he hasn't even seen another amazon before this (or any other parrot)... I really don't know but odds of them pair bonding are quite low?

This is true to be honest, as I'm an active member of a parrot organization here in Sweden. Most blue fronts here are from the calmer, friendlier A.Aestiva subspecies. Why, I don't know but I do know that we have all the types here, and very mixed types as well. I didn't know they were unusual in the US since you guys seem to have every parrot species we guys in the north have to travel hundreds of kilometers to get a hold of.. I think it's just the love for parrots here in the north that is slowly growing, and not that they are prevalent. :)

If someone got any pointers how to prevent pair-bonding of my to Zons i would be grateful. I know the basics, i'm trying to be the best buddy for them both but more wiser and experiensed pointers would be great :)

Doing great, no aggression from Elli or Åke and Aatu seems to be really brave little zon. He doesn't seem to fear us or show any marks of stressing or anything like that. I opened his cage about 15mins ago and he climbed out immediately. Sitting on top of his cage now :)

Take get care with the hinge style top on your BFA's cage! That style cage has a history of catching the legs of Parrots in the hinge areas and causing the loss of a nail, toe, leg or worst, the lost of the Parrot.

Amazons are generally mechanical and will be attacked to the dowel that holds it open or the hinges themselves. What is even more of a concern is that even when the cage top is closed, Parrots have been able to get toes and legs in between the pieces and parts.

Regarding limiting their bonding. Commonly if the guys have their own cages and do not spend extended time with each other and equal time with you, they tend not to bond as easily. Friends not Buddies.

They spend time together all day, but im around too all the time :)

I modified one of my top opening cages already (taked the hinges off, so the roof just lifts off now). Need to do that to Aatus cage too when he gets the courage to leave his cage. Still sitting top of it :)

Short video of Aatu whistling some song i dont recognize (probably some Finnish golden oldie) while we're driving back home from his earlier home:

Aatu speaks, whistles and laughs. He's very vocal... More videos coming :)

Aatu speaks and whistles + Elli flies to his cage... I needed to stop filming after Åke flew to my shoulder, that was too much (i cant be sure yet that Elli or Åke doesnt attack Aatu or that Aatu doesn't attack them). There has been none aggression but better to be safe than sorry.
