Im not sure if this is a problem. My new GCC was fully weaned about 10 days ago and has been with me for seven days. He wants to get up close to the windows and look outside and also calls out to any bird he sees flying past. Sometimes he seems quite desperate to get out of his cage and up to the windows. This seems to happen when the sun is shining on the window ... ie very bright light outside. Apart from this, he is very tame, eating well and generally seems happy.

Should I worry about this or is it "normal" for a baby who has recently left its siblings. My previous bird did not do this - although some of the birds outside were her own species - but she came via a pet shop and may not have been so young.

Well, of course he loves to look outside! I got mine last month around the same age. She still loves to look out the window, but I limit her window time each day, and now that she's more comfortable, she prefers to be with the family. Mine was also hand fed and tame.

I would suggest closing the blinds and limiting window time, since mine exhibited similar behavior. I'm sure he still has some more time to get used to you and the family, but I think as long as you continue regular interaction, he will begin to prefer your attention over the window.

FYI, mine did throw tantrums when the blinds were shut, but quickly got over it.

Eventually once your bird bonds with you, it will look to you as it's family rather than other birds. Loco loves to look out the windows and he's even had magpies come up to the window but other than that he doesn't really care much. I'm sure your GCC will be fine.

I always have curtains up so mine don't ever try to look out...The only one that really does it before when he was around was Java the U2. He looks out the window looking for me. IF he sees me outside, he starts to scream for me....

Thanks guys for all the advice. It is good to know that this behaviour is not uncommon and that it can be modified.
