Big Bird _ Blue & Gold Macaw
I was looking close at the cage that came with Big bird and it looks like a few places are rusting. Had boyfriend take a close look. The bar at the top worried me. He said it had been welded in there . Chipping in a few places so I ordered my sweet bird a new cage this morning . Hope it will be ok. It is bigger than what he is in now

Those are nice. That is similar to the one I am using with Maggie... but yeah, more room is better.

Oh good to know Birdman. I have been worried it was not a good cage because of the mark down on price.

Nah... the deal is they list them for way above what most folks are willing to pay, and then "IT'S ON SALE! WHAT A GREAT DEAL!" 500-ish is about going rate for a decent (non stainless) big mac cage.

Stainless Steel cages are still at least $1,500 for a decent one, and going rate is somewhere between $1,800 and $2,500...

Maggie's actually in a Kings double macaw cage. Same shape, just a little larger. Two door version of that cage really so add an extra front piece. I got mine used from a friend who was upgrading to stainless.

She wasn't poor, like me.

LOL tell me about the poor . I really thought the one He came with was ok for awhile. Now I see more and more rust spots. Boyfriend looked close and he said its " tacked " very bad in some areas and in his opinion it was home made or tossed together cage so he is actually helping me buy this one :)

I did buy a sand perch for him a week ago but also picked up a concrete perch yesterday. Lets see if he can chew that one LOL He is giving the Sand perch a good work over

Now I just have to find a Foraging toy he will not destroy in a day or two :-)

OMG Dude you are right this is one nice cage. HUGE The old one was ok for a Macaw but this one is the Hilton . Need more $ for toys to fill it up . I also bought nuts on the way home for a toy. OMG this cage is HUGE

Nice! Looking forward to photos of Big Bird, Gus, in his new room!

I really just need to start calling him Big Bird but it just does not fit. Neither does GUS . We stared calling him Gus because he bit the girl at the vets office and I told her go head Get U Some. LOL GUS
I think he is leaning some new words. No issues with the cage except getting the seed guard on and well I am just staying out of the way right now While Boyfriend teaches my Macaw some new words. :)

more coffeeeeee and I will try to take some pictures. I was very impressed with the quality of this cage. Went together so easy. Small container of paint for any touch up that might be done. OMG it is huge LOL

Nice Deflin As soon as my bank account settles down after Christmas I might look into one like that

He is really enjoying the box it came in :54:
First time uploading hope it works

GREAT big cage for your baby. :)

May I suggest you replace the dowel with a natural branch (dragonwood for example)? It's much easier on their feet and will prevent sores, too.

Yes Jersey we will. Just so much going on today. I don't like it and bought something to wrap it with but found out it was treated so new perch is being baked right now to make sure it is safe :)
Thank you for looking out for me and suggesting it

Poor person's macaw toys 101:

A macaws favorite shredder toy is FREE. It's called a telephone book.

You want a good macaw forraging toy? Get a carboard box. Take a handful of nuts, shelled and unshelled, and some foot toys. (I use the broken pieces from the wooden toys they break. Usually half of it falls to the floor or the bottom of the cage. WASH AND RECYCLE.) Crumple up paper. Hide the food, and the foot toys in the paper. throw the whole thing, along with a phone book in a cardboard box, and toss it on the floor of his cage. The first time you do this, sit down with him, and let him see you put stuff in the paper, so he knows to look for it. Hand him one.

Foraging toy. The food you would normally give him anyway. A few sheets of paper. Broken toys that would have otherwise gone to waste. A phone book, and a box.

Just watch how long he plays in that stupid box! Watch the way his face lights up when you toss it in there... and he goes down to investigate it.

THIS IS HOW WE TAUGHT PLUCKING TOOS TO PLAY DOWN AT THE RESCUE, BY THE WAY. ONE CARDBOARD BOX USUALLY LASTS AROUND TWO HOURS OF FUN. AND COSTS A GRAND TOTAL OF NOTHING!!!

See how this works?! :D

Or you could buy that $50.00 toy that he never plays with...

Either way.

Already have nuts in a bag waiting to string. The box is being cut up as we speak to string up and use. You taught me well Master Birdman

His color looks so much better. To me anyway. Fresh Pineapple and oranges for breakfast in the morning.
His Chest feathers are still coming in and kinda look yucky. Total attitude change with the new cage. Even Boyfriend can get close to him now LOL

Honestly, I never bother with the seed guards myself. They don't really catch all that much, and they are harder to clean than the floor. All they do is increase the cage footprint... All the seed guards for my cages are somewhere in my garage.
