I have a citron cockatoo, Umbrella cockatoo, Parakeets, Finches, Lovebirds, Cockatiels, Canaries, Sun Conures, Green Cheek Conures and planning to get a lot more!!!
Hi guys I just got a cockatoo today. Very excited. He is screaming a lot but I'm assuming that's from adjusting to his new home. The owner I bought him from wasn't able to handle the bird but all his kids can 10 yr olds. It was amazing what he can do. He can talk hello blackjack *his name* and others. Dances etc

Here's the problem*********
I can't seem to hold him and get him back in his cage. I got lucky I let him out once played with him for 5>hours till 9:30 at night and it was getting late and he didn't want to go in. I tried hold him and he kept running away. I closed the garage and he ran in scared. Our garage isn't loud but was moving and he got scared and ran in. Is that the only way to get him in? I'm very scared of holding him but he's a sweet bird. Almost bit me already. How do I get him on me without killing me.
I live in a new home in a new area so rodents etc will not be a problem and the garage is good weather condition since I live in California warm and not to cold during winter months

PLEASE HELP ME I WANT TO HOLD HIM LIKETHAT LITTLE BOY DID :D:white1:

Congrats on getting a new pet.
I hope you did some reading before you got your bird.
You both need to get to know each other. It might take time.
Some birds click with one particular human right away, but it not always the case.
To take him back to his cage you might try offering him something he likes. Make sure he can see it (you can even make sounds like you like it too, even showing him how you are eating it and loving it), then place it in his cage. He should go inside to check it out, they are very curious little beasts.......

He wouldn't let me feed him from my hand yet and I'm not sure what he likes. He's scared of me trying to hold him I think. How do I hold him with my finger or my arm?? I hope he will like me. I don't want to let him out because of that. How will I get him back in. I got lucky the first time

He doesn't have any toys yet but have a huge cage costed a lot for me but who cares. What kind of toys are good for him? Ones that will last long and occupied and will he be scared of it?

Try to get him on a consistent time out of cage schedule. Not extreme and not too little. Toos are can be bullys and bluffers . They want to see what they can do with you. Im not saying don't have him out ,just have structure so they don't get big heads . I have 3 2s and once they knew you were not scared [they are better] . Insist he gets on a stick to put him back in [no playing around] .

Yeah that's the problem he won't go on my hand and won't go on any perches or anything. I'm also scared he might try and destroy my hand :/

My cockatoo doesn't like me ): he always runs away from me I'm the one who changes his food etc insist with him for hours and my sister comes and he likes her right away. She can touch him and I can't anymore.
I raise my hand slowly but he runs away.
