Hi I just got my first bird yesterday and am amazed how friendly and smart my bird Raymond is. My question is he does not want to poop in his cage. If I take him out I take him right to the toilet and he goes on command now. He picked this up very quick. Does anyone see a problem with this behavior. He has pooped in his cage today when I was at work but did one time in his water.

Welcome to the forum:). Your Gcc is very beautiful and it's amazing he's already pooping on command. Wow. As to your issue with him not pooping in his cage I wouldn't worry as like you said you only got him yesterday so he's not used to his surroundings. Give him a few days to get used to his new home and I'm sure he'll start pooping in his cage. Good luck with your new baby.

I agree with the above, especially the beautiful part! My baby came to me potty trained, very nice!

Welcome to the forums and Congratulations! Raymond is a beauty!

I agree with all the above. Give your little friend time to adjust to his new environment, he'll choose a place or places to poop. Some birds almost potty train themselves, it's possible your little one was hatched with good manners.

We used to have our GCC potty trained, but she would hold it too much and our avian vet recommended to discontinue the potty training because she would hold it while we were gone at work for the whole day and the vet said that can cause bacterial build up. So now we just keep napkins and Poop Off wipes around the "usual" places! :)

Hi and Welcome to the forum I have no advice for you as Im not a potty training enthuasiast but your baby Raymond is Beautiful ...Congratulations on adding him to your family :)

Congratulations on your beautiful bird. Encourage going poo in the cage (sounds like it will be fine to me) as the poo place. This way you discourage them holding it all day long. Whenever I train my birds, I train them to use the cage first then on to the play stand as their potty. I've never had trouble with them not going in the cage.
